La estatua me desconcierta, y no tomé notas basándome en las inscripciones. El parque y su museo asociado se centran en los primeros colonos galeses de Chubut: personas que desembarcaron en las cercanías y vivieron durante un tiempo en cuevas excavadas en el acantilado situado bajo la estatua. Sin embargo, ellos no eran católicos romanos; por consiguiente, la estatua no guarda relación con ese conjunto de acontecimientos. Incrustado en el pavimento, a sus pies, hay un mapa de Italia. - The statue befuddles me, and I failed to take notes based on the inscriptions. The park and its associated museum focus on the early Welsh colonists in Chubut, people who landed nearby and lived for a time in caves carved into the bluff below the statue. They were not Roman Catholic, and thus the statue is not connected to that set of events, however. Worked into the pavement at its foot is a map of Italy.

Bergen is considered by some to be the center of Norwegian culture. Several of Norway's most famous artistic figures - Holberg, Bjørnson, Ibsen, Greg and more recently Knausgaard - had strong ties to the city. Further removed from Danish (and Swedish and more general European) influences than Oslo, it can be argued that Bergen allowed the evolution of a more distinctively Norwegian spirit which led to the launch of Norway's most famous contributions to literature, music and theater.

Well yes, but these days usually in somewhat more luxurious circumstances with other old people. This trip was a welcome exception, and I realize that I greatly enjoy traveling with younger people - no extended discussions of medical maladies, lots of enthusiasm for the as yet unexplored, and an openness to new experiences. Sadly on my birthday today I am 10 years older, and I wonder if I could make this trip again.

The 1979 trip to Bali was in the form of a brief vacation, and I took very poor notes on locations and subjects.

Tras la Reconquista, se inició la construcción de la estructura románica, y los restos de su santo titular, San Isidoro de Sevilla, fueron trasladados allí en el siglo XI. Durante la Baja Edad Media, se convirtió en el panteón de los reyes y reinas de León, así como de otros nobles. Construida a lo largo de varios siglos, la iglesia presenta una serie de añadidos de diversos estilos; no obstante, su pórtico de entrada constituye un ejemplo preeminente de la arquitectura románica. - One of the most important churches in Spain, the Basilica of San Isidoro, was built atop a Roman temple dedicated to Mercury. Following the Reconquista, construction of the Romanesque structure began, and the remains of its patron saint, Saint Isidore of Seville, were transferred there in the 11th century. During the Late Middle Ages, it became the pantheon for the kings and queens of León, as well as for other nobles. Built over the course of several centuries, the church features a series of additions in various styles; nevertheless, its entrance portal stands as a preeminent example of Romanesque architecture.
