those posts complaining about greasy hair arent exaggerating btw, it really makes you feel like everything in your life is going wrong and falling apart. and then you shower and it turns into a normal tuesday
i love meryl saying “he wouldn’t keep a good woman like me waiting” for a number of reasons but mainly bc the implication here is she knows that her feelings for vash are requited and she also knows that she’s a catch so it isn’t question of if he’s going to come back to her, it’s when. and also i’m so certain that when he did come back he agonized over whether he should tell her how he felt and she was just waiting to see how long it took for him to get the courage to do it
Five favorite fics I've written
Finally getting around to responding to this, lol! Thank you @tmgt for tagging me! (Find her post here!)
The Nearness of You - My very first chaptered fic and still one of my favorites, I remember having such a blast writing it. Haha, it's a departure from a lot of my fics in that the whole thing is told through Nines' POV as he slowly pieces together the relationship forming between his brother and best friend. I remember deliberately writing it to be sweet--the "anti-angst" as I put it XD--and I think I did pretty well! Not that there aren't serious moments in it, of course there are, but overall it's just very lighthearted imo. And humorous, I've gotten a lot of comments on it being funny, lol! But yeah, if you're looking for a gentle little Convin fic told through the eyes of an exasperated Nines, this one still hits I think. XD
The Lark Ascending - Without a doubt, I think this is absolutely the best thing I've ever written. But! It is weird as hell, ngl, lol! While it's still technically a DBH fic, the entire thing can stand alone as an original work save for the epilogue, and I know that was very offputting to a lot of people. It was highly experimental, with me never even using the characters' names and putting them into this mythological fantasy setting as elemental spirits, but even so, I think the plot of it, the emotions, the character work, etc. is absolutely the best I've ever done. The whole fic came from a very raw place for me and certainly helped me work through a few things and I just... I really love where I ended up with it. To date, it's still my longest and most involved work (though 52k words isn't exactly epic length lol!) and I'm super proud of it! And while the characters are certainly inspired by DBH and I had them all in mind writing it, it really does work well as a stand-alone if you wanna read it that way!
nothing himself, beholds - One of the rawest, most emotional stories I've ever written, despite it being a oneshot, I still absolutely adore this fic for how it showcases Hank and Connor's relationship. But damn, it is... very sad. The ending is hopeful, yes, but man... I made myself cry writing this one. If you're down for some android existentialism and Hank having to wrestle with maybe having to bury another son, this is the one for you.
of little loves and orange slices - Surprisingly, for a fic written in my slump era, this is absolutely one of my faves! I've always adored Hank as a character, he's my absolute favorite if we're just going off unadulterated canon, and this was my attempt at a little character study for him. A little walk through his life and the relationships that have been so important to him and how, somehow, they all center around oranges. I just... love the vibe of this one a lot and I think I did Hank justice in the writing of it, which makes me really happy. It's very short but, imo, packed with a lot of emotion and I'm super proud of how it turned out.
don't go without me - Okay, yeah, this one is absolutely a wild card, lol. What, a rarepair? North60? A ship that has like less than 20 fics dedicated to it? Yeah, well, screw you guys, I love the two of them to the point of madness and thus was this little fic born. But I just... I really adore the idea of an android at his lowest point staring down his own demise, but finding something like salvation, something like a will to continue on, in this fiery redhead and her refusal to give up on him. It's Sixty's cynicism vs North's stalwart hope in her people, his hopelessness vs her will to protect. It's an android who thinks there is nothing for him in this life vs an android who believes with all her heart that every one of her people deserves a better future. And I... I adore the dynamic, man. I love just how immutable North is in the face of his despair, how she breaks through his defenses so easily and leaves him reeling. It's sarcasm and bonding through violence and the stark, decisive reality that just because you've done bad things in your past, it doesn't mean you don't deserve a second chance. And honestly, it's not even like... very shippy tbh? It can be read as completely platonic and the message will still ring the same. But it's the truth of two broken souls recognizing each other for what they really are and thinking each other is still worth it, is still beautiful, and it just--! Argh! It gets me!!! And man, when I say I had a helluva time picking between this fic and its sequel that fleshes things out a lot more, know that I'm speaking true, because I love this whole series I've done for them. But yeah, I think... There is really something poignant in this first fic. It's not long or involved, but it is I think one of my best works.
This honestly took me forever to curate, I somehow have 21 fics posted without realizing and I love them all a lot. And I know it's sort of against the spirit of this, but I have to give a few honorable mentions here? Of course, I have to mention In a Name, (my very first posted fanfic that I still have such a soft spot for) wherein Connor contemplates human naming conventions and Hank tries his best to guide him to the answer they both want. Also shouting out a fic from the same series, In Your Own Time, an Anderfam and RK Bros fic that absolutely made me cry writing. A Simple Equation is, somehow, my most popular fic even though it's just a oneshot, but I do genuinely think it's great also! (Convin fic where Connor accidentally manipulates Gavin into falling in love with him, only to realize along the way that he's fallen for Gavin, too.) And really, just any of my other works, I'm proud of them all! (You can find them here on my AO3!)
So yeah, I'll leave things off there, lol. Passing this one to: @shivanessadraws, @thedarkivist, @woppy42, @eomma-jpeg, @nock-and-bolt and anyone else who'd like to join in, lol.

I love asking people how their parents met. You always get an interesting reply. My best friend’s parents met on the relatively new internet in 1999. My other friend’s parents met at Burger King when one was the manager and the other was a regular customer. My parents met at the beach because they were neighbors in their rental houses, mom was on a church trip and dad was getting blackout drunk every night with his friends next door.
Tell me how your parents met in the tags.

at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.
At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.
All this discourse over who does "painting with light"
Hiroshi Nagai's paintings need sunglasses to look at.
They look like how it feels to walk across a parking lot on a 98° summer day without a speck of shade in sight.
They look like heaven but also like you'd burn your bare feet on the ground.
Even when you can see shade you know it's not enough and the minute you step out you'll be burnt to a crisp like a vampire.
And it's BEAUTIFUL
