my current asgore theory before going into chapter 5 is that asgore didn’t have anything to do with dess’s disappearance, but he did witness it. like he saw her enter a dark world or some other supernatural shit and tried to alert everyone, but the entire town thought that he went insane and was unfit to be the police chief any longer. if anyone believed that he had caused her to go missing then there’s no way he would still have any friendly relationships with anyone in town, let alone the holidays, and carol sure as hell wouldn’t have given him a side gig as their housekeeper. instead, everyone seems to pity him. i think he tried to tell people what he saw, it caused a bit of a scandal because they couldn’t have a guy who randomly started ranting about other dimensions handling a missing person’s case, and toriel left him because it was hurting asriel and kris.
