While I was watching the Disney Legends ceremony on Disney+, I couldn’t stop thinking of the following question:
How many of these people are actually Disney Legends, and how many are acquisition legends?
Let’s look at this year’s list.
Colleen Atwood — Disney
Angela Bassett — Acquisition (Marvel)
Martha Blanding — 100% Disney
James L Brooks — Asquisition (FOX, Simpsons)
James Cameron — Acquisition (Avatar)
Jamie Lee Curtis — Disney
Miley Cyrus — Disney
Steve Ditko — Acquisition (Marvel)
Harrison Ford — Acquisition (Star Wars)
Mark Henn — Disney
Frank Oz — Acquisition (Star Wars, Muppets)
Kelly Ripa — Disney-ish
Joe Rohde — Disney
John Williams — Acquisition (Star Wars)
50% of the Legends this year don’t even work with Disney. Angela Bassett did end up having a role in Soul, but she only came into the DisneyVerse through Marvel. The idea of Brooks being a Disney legend is ridiculous because most people don’t connect The Simpsons with Disney. Avatar is only in Disney because Joe Rohde convinced him to make a land. Steve Ditko has NOTHING to do with Disney because he was just the Marvel comics. While I know that Harrison Ford has has a presence with Disney for a long while with Indiana Jones, has anyone ever gotten the impression that he LIKES that Disney connection? He doesn’t do the voice work, they had to change his likeness slightly for the Disneyland ride, and I’ve always gotten the feeling that he didn’t like Disney buying Star Wars which is why they killed him off asap. I’m on the fence with Frank Oz, because Disney have owned the Muppets for SO long, but his work has never branched into Disney proper. And as much as I love John Williams, he is NOT a Disney legend because he has never worked with Disney. He is a legend, but not a Disney legend.
As much as I adore Galaxy’s Edge and the fact Star Wars has continued past the first two trilogies, I really don’t feel like these acquisitions are actually Disney Legends. I find John Williams the most interesting Legend because he has a fairly exclusive working relationship with Steven Spielberg, who is very Team Universal. I know that Williams is 92, but I feel like that is not the reason he skipped on the ceremony. Disney bought his work and gave him an award despite never working with them.
I don’t know why, but these non-Disney Disney Legends don’t sit well with me. Not because I don’t think they’re not Legends, but because…
Do any other Disney fans get terms like “S-Tier” and “E-Ticket” mixed up?
I often see people refer to things as S-Tier, meaning superior, followed by tiers A-E. In the world of Disney fans, there is a similar system for the rides using the old Disneyland ticket books, and that is in reverse order.
An E-Ticket attraction is the absolute best one in the park, going down to A. So when something is called A-Tier it’s confusing.
I’m talking about Lin Manuel Miranda and his chase for an Oscar again. He has attempted to get Best Original Song a few times and has been nominated twice, which is great but it’s not a win. But in my opinion, his song writing is NOT his strongest skill. The reason his music is so unique is because he’s a genre disturber, but he’s no Alan Menken.
In my opinion, LMM’s biggest asset is his storytelling. In The Heights caught the attention it did because it was an incredible story with amazing music. He made the story of a founding father, and not even a main founding father, interesting because of the storytelling. The music just happened to be insanely unique.
So for the love of god Disney, get LMM writing the script, NOT just the music. That is the missing piece.
Does anyone else judge a YouTuber by their contact with other YouTubers in the same niche? I can't help but notice when certain YouTubers all hang out together and when others aren't included.
Disney vloggers are a great example. I'm a big fan of Ordinary Adventures, and I find that a lot of the other YouTubers that I like are good friends with OA. And if I see a YouTuber that I don't recognize making a large appearance, I check out their channel and usually like their content too. That's how I found channels like Mouse Vibes, Views and Queues and Random Recess. It also gave a big endorsement to channels like Provost Park Pass, FreshBaked and Theme Park Express because I might not have watched much before. But then there are certain YouTubers that DON'T seem to socialize with other YouTubers in their niche and I often find their content is not enjoyable at all, IMO. I won't name them because that would be really rude but...
Maybe it's because it's a niche with a physical location that everyone can socialize at, but I find it fascinating.

I’m not very good at remembering faces. Or names. Or instructions. But one thing I can recall is dialogue from movies and TV and song lyrics. There is one scene that has lived in my head rent free for 22 years now.
I had never heard Israel Kamakawiwoʻolé’s version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” before this moment, so it immediately seared itself into my brain, forever associated with one of the best character death arcs that has ever been on TV.
This scene has been on my mind a lot lately. I’m not sure why or if it means anything, but it’s floating in the background of my head, chilling.
I recently got a 3D printer during Prime Days and so far, I really like it. I just had a really messed up idea though. I want to print Anna and Elsa as their frozen statue forms.
It's a little dark but... It would be really cool. I'd also like to 3d print Nokk.
You guys have no idea how deep my dislike of the new Mufasa movie is
First off, it breaks off from the OG story entirely, because Mufasa talks about his linage and stuff. Then the rest of the story is just the parts they forgot to steal from Kimba The Lion Cub in the first movie.
I hated Beyonce being cast SO much because it was a clearly a desperate attempt for her to have an excuse to win Best Song somewhere and she couldn't do that.
Blue Ivy getting to play Kiara is just as bad as North West singing at the Hollywood Bowl. At least try to disguise the nepotism a bit.
Lin Manuel Miranda attaching himself to write songs for a Disney movie AGAIN is starting to reek of desperation for an EGOT. I love LMM's shows, but this is going to be the FIFTH Disney movie that he has written for, and he's clearly chasing that Oscar win. When I see that list and then I see that EVERY movie has a song with an identical LMM style rap in it (You're Welcome, A Cover is Not The Book, Bruno's line in All Of You, and of course, the horrific Scuttlebutt) and I just... stopped rooting for him. In the wise words of LMM's own musical, he needs to Take a Break.
The animation is, once again, too realistic. Lions are not known for their emotive expressions, so it just looks ridiculous.
I had an idea of doing a podcast called “Okay I have a question” where I have a guest who is an expert in something I am currently hyper-fixated on and pick their brain for an hour.
Until I do that, I’m just queuing polls on Tumblr.
What do you think is Lin Manuel Miranda’s better musical?

I need to say this because it’s been sitting on my mind lately.
I love travel vlogs, and one of my favourites is Flying The Nest. I’m struggling with it lately through because I keep thinking of Hunter and Koa, their children. I have loved watching Hunter grow and I think Koa is adorable. But at the same time, I’m VERY aware of the fact that there are a lot of gross people on the internet and I worry about that as Hunter gets older.
Also, Hunter is now old enough to go to preschool , and is one year away from needing mandatory schooling. In a recent video, they discussed their plan so Hunter can both go to school and travel as well. I wonder how Hunter will feel after doing a term in class and then being taken away for the other two thirds of the year. Is Hunter going to feel comfortable voicing her feelings if she decides she wants to stay with her class and friends. Is there a contingency plan?
It’s tough. I LOVE their content but I also don’t think kids that age have the ability to consent to their participation. So far, Jess and Steve have done a great job of not oversharing with content of Hunter and Koa, so that’s not an issue in my mind, but I hope that if there ever is a moment where Hunter gets tired of the camera, it’s immediately respected.

Mousey: Listen, okay? Don’t tell him I said any of this shit, okay? I’m really proud of him. I’m extremely proud of Connor. When we did our interview, you guys won’t see this because of course it gets cut, you know, shit gets edited. And shit gets cut out but… I- I cried to him and I told him that- How appreciative I was of him because, you know, I would have never guessed that like when we met three years ago, almost four years ago, that we would be at this point. That we would be doing stuff like this together. And we would be, you know, raising awareness, changing people’s lives, helping people. It’s just- I’m just so grateful for his friendship. So grateful that he’s apart of my life because, you know, (Silence) I just am. I’m- I’m. I just am. He’s been there for me like no one else has been there for me and, um, it’s crazy for me to think that like we’re doing stuff like this and it’s like- I would have never thought that the day that we met and we just started talking-
You know, I remember when we first started talking I was like really.. scared to tell him that I was sick. And the only reason why like I told him was because I had to. Because he kept bringing up like going to hangout and like, you know, asking me to come like (to) Japan and like chill and like, you know, recommend places and stuff like that. And I just- I don’t know. Something in me told me to tell him. And I was really scared because I don’t like telling people because I feel like I’m just going to get treated differently or people are just going to get weirded out or grossed out or- And not want to talk to me. So, I was just like, you know what? I’m just going to tell him and if he stops talking to me after that then he stops talking to me after that! And you know, if we just- if we just like talk like “Hi Bye” friends then that’s fine with me. It’s- It’s fine, you know? But that was not what happened. I told him how shocked I was cause when I told him about it, it was the exact opposite of what I thought was going to happen. I- He.
I was just taken aback that he like genuinely showed concern. He wanted to know more about my condition, he wanted to know more about what was going on and he asked so many questions and he wasn’t like dismissive. Or he wasn’t like, “Oh well damn. That sucks bro.” Cause normally you would tell somebody and they’d be like, “Damn that’s crazy. That sucks. Sorry.” You know what I mean? Like usually people are just like, “Oh my god that’s terrible.” And then you move on. And then it’s just like, “Sorry about that. Sorry if that’s going on with you.” You know? But with him it was like, you know, he wanted to know everything. He wanted to learn more about everything that was going on and he was genuinely interested, genuinely concerned, genuinely just wanted to know more about me. And I was.. shocked. Shocked that that was happening. And um. You know. We’ve been besties ever since and it’s just.. crazy to think. (Sniffles)
He’s a good guy. Genuinely. Genuinely good guy. (Voice breaks and sniffles more) And uh. I just uh. I’m just very grateful to him that he, you know, he cares about all this stuff and not once did he ever like feel weirded out or disgusted, you know? Judgmental. So. (Sniffles) You know. It was- It was- It’s crazy. It was like one of the first moments of my life where I just felt like I could be myself and I didn’t have to pretend or hide. And… and it’s been like that ever since and it’s just really nice that he genuinely cares about this cause and he genuinely cares about helping other people like me. So I- I am just very thankful. I’m already crying (Laughs)
"Why would I show my daughters Snow White when Anna and Elsa exist?"
Because girls need to see more than one type of female character in their stories. We don't want girls to see "damsel-in-distress housekeeper" as their only option, but its equally dangerous to show them the currently-popular flavor of "take-charge Strong Female Character" as the only acceptable kind of woman to be.
Because Snow White is confident. While the Queen is obsessing over her own insecurities, Snow White is going through her day completely comfortable with who she is.
Because Snow White is skilled. While the Queen's treatment of her is unjust, Snow White's acceptance of her work as a scullery maid makes her, not just an idle princess, but a working woman. She has cleaning and cooking skills that are recognized as valuable contributions to society. She is then able to use those skills when she needs a place to stay--instead of just a helpless damsel-in-distress who has to beg for a place, she is someone they want to have living with them because she has valuable skills to offer.
Because Snow White is kind. She is so kind that animals immediately trust her, that a hardened assassin can't kill her, that dwarves love her. She is sensitive to the feelings of others rather than embittered by her own fears. She is friendly to everyone she meets, showing interest in their lives and concern for their problems.
Because Snow White is a caretaker. Though young and mistreated, she is always looking to care for others. She immediately comforts a lost little bird. When she finds a cottage belonging to what she believes to be lonely orphans, she takes it upon herself to make their home comfortable. She even takes this a bit too far in setting rules for the dwarves' household, which offers depth to her character. She does take charge, but instead of seizing power like the Queen, Snow is looking to serve others and seeks their good.
Because Snow White is brave. After her panicked flight through the forest, she is sharp enough to recognize that her fear made the situation worse than reality, and she consciously decides to adopt a cheerful, hopeful outlook.
Because Snow White is intelligent. She's a good-enough judge of character to recognize a worthy love interest when he appears (and unlike certain princesses, she's right about it). She recognizes when her fear makes things worse than they are and is able to make better plans for the future. She is able to coordinate a housecleaning effort among a huge variety of untrained forest animals.
Because Snow White is humble. She is willing to take on the humblest work in the castle and is not humiliated by it. She asks the animals and the dwarves for help when she needs it. She even recognizes the need for prayer.
Because Snow White is good.
Because she is innocent.
Because she is patient.
Because she is loving.
Because little girls should learn to be all those things, and Snow White is a character who shows them what that looks like.
Damn. This is true. We don’t all want to be Snow While but we also don’t all want to be Elsa or Anna. It’s good to see diversity in personality types too.
One major mistake people make when looking at Snow White is assuming that they were trying to create a Disney Princess role model for little girls to emulate, when actually they were just trying their darndest to create an animated character that audiences would care about.
When we see pure and innocent Snow White being mistreated by her stepmother and later driven into exile, it's supposed to activate parental instincts that make us want to protect her. It shouldn't matter if she doesn't do anything to save herself, because she shouldn't have to. We're supposed to feel the injustice of it, feel sad and angry that she's treated this way, fear that she's going to come to harm. We're not supposed to want to be her, we're supposed to love her, and want to see her get the love she deserves, so we remain invested for the entire runtime of this 80-minute cartoon that they're afraid audiences won't sit through. That's what mattered to the story while they were making it, so applying Disney Princess expectations is ridiculous.
This is a very good point! Considering it was the first full length animated movie, it had only one mission: keep the audience the full 80 minutes. That’s it. That’s the goal.

TUMBLR I HAVE A QUESTION
I am an older millennial, which means I completely missed the whole Descendants franchise. I also grew up with the GREATEST VERSION OF CINDERELLA, aka the one with Brandy. So when I saw the video that Paolo Montalban posted of his first dance rehearsal with Brandy to “So This Is Love”… my heart exploded.
Do I need to know the Descandants franchise at all to enjoy Rise of Red?
Also, are Brandy and Paolo in the movie for longer than 5 minutes? Or can I just YouTube their clips and be content?
Also also, Paolo Montalban is one of the few young crushes I had where I see him now and STILL would marry him in a second if the opportunity arose. He literally is Prince Charming.

Here is a list of people that I wish I, an older millennial, should have appreciated more when they were actually active performers:
Celine Dion
Nickelback
Tragically Hip
Janet Jackson
I remember being at SARSfest (yes, that was a thing) and someone joked to say that Celine Dion would be making a surprise appearance and the crowd of 500,000 people booed. I always wondered if she actually was backstage and was like “Forget this I’m leaving” because the crowd had already thrown bottles of pee at Justin Timberlake.
It wasn’t until the Deadpool 2 soundtrack did I realize that Celine Dion is not just an amazing singer but she’s hilarious.
I also remember really not liking the Tragically Hip because I only knew the release that came out when I was in grade 8, “Music At Work”. That is… not a great song, but it means I missed out on enjoying songs like Bobcaygeon and Ahead by a Century until I was an adult.
Things we know about Moana 2:
It is set 3 years after the first movie
This kid was in the trailer
I know there’s people speculating it’s Moana’s, but it’s obviously not because that kid looks about 2, so it would have possibly been conceived during the first movie. To me, this both makes the answer clear and also very sad.
In Moana, she leaves her parents, Tui and Sina, to go save the island. She has never sailed before. Tui is terrified of the open ocean. And we have no idea how long Moana is out at sea for. She was the only daughter and the only one in line to be the next chief.
The fact that Tui and Sina had another child is probably because they thought Moana wasn’t coming back. And that thought breaks my heart.
Also, the baby has already been confirmed to be a little sister named Simea, and she has a voice actor so the age 2-3 idea holds up. The basic plot and additional characters were introduced at Annecy Festival.
