Synopsis
There is cruelty in kindness. It was kindness that invited unwanted advances. Kindness sent mixed signals. Kindness destroyed her life. Hardening herself to the outside world, Gwen made sure there was never any doubt about where she stood with others. Kindness for its own sake, she realized, was justification for her pain.
Years after her self-isolation, Gwen is brought to the North Sea. Strange sounds have been recorded, and her brother, Isaac, thought it would be the perfect opportunity for her. Finally, she should be able to accept the closure she had received. What they caught would challenge everything she had built.
Tidebound Heart follows Gwen, a marine biologist who specialises in cataloging and understanding whale songs, and Sigurd the merman captured in the North Sea. Sigurd comes into her life, forcing her to see that what she has built isn't closure but a plea for help. After spending her life listening to whales, it's time someone finally hears her cries.
The First Line:
“Guilty.” The judge read as the courtroom erupted in a mixture of glee and outrage.
