“You’re impossible, you know that?” Jonathan asked, shoveling the guts out of a pumpkin while Edward watched, arms crossed and face scowling.
“It’s gross, I don’t want to touch it!” He protested, earning a sharp laugh from Jonathan.
“I’ve seen you covered in blood and viscera, and you can’t touch pumpkin guts?”
“I can, it’s just a deeply unpleasant experience” Edward protested. “Now, are you about done?”
Jonathan rolled his eyes, getting the last of the seeds out and flicking it at Edward, who recoiled away. The seed stuck to his jacket, the wet and sticky glob of pumpkin guts not coming off even as he shook his jacket in an attempt to dislodge it.
“You’re going to ruin it you fucking monster, and I’m going to kill you for it!” He hissed, seeming to grow angrier as the frantic shaking of his jacket made Jonathan laugh.
“Just pick it off.” He drawled, a smug look on his face that made Edwards face red with anger. He fumbled his jacket off, throwing it at Jon.
“YOU fix it, or it isn’t the pumpkin I’m going to carve!”
Jon shook his head, still smiling. He pulled the seed off the jacket, throwing it in the bag with the rest.
“Right, we done here?” He asked, reaching out to pet Edward’s hair placatingly. Edward flinched back, appalled.
“With the same hand? You’re an animal, you know that?”
Jonathan rolled his eyes, smile gone as he turned away. He tied the bag of pumpkin guts up and threw it out, then went to the sink and made a show of washing his hands. When Edward still dared to look smug, Jonathan flicked his hand hard, splashing Edward with the water and wiping the satisfied look off his face.
“Keep wishing, boy.” Jonathan replied, holding a knife out to Edward by the handle. “Or do it yourself.”
Edward took the offered knife, settling down in front of the pumpkin with a frown. Jon sat next to him with his own pumpkin, brushing their arms together fondly
“Well? gonna take me out?”
Edward looked at him for a moment with steely eyes, before his whole body untensed slightly but noticeably.
“… Not today, old man.” He muttered with annoyed fondness. “But don’t get too cozy”
