🚨BREAKING: OpenAI published a paper proving that ChatGPT will always make things up.
Not sometimes. Not until the next update. Always. They proved it with math.
Even with perfect training data and unlimited computing power, AI models will still confidently tell you things that are completely false. This isn't a bug they're working on. It's baked into how these systems work at a fundamental level.
And their own numbers are brutal. OpenAI's o1 reasoning model hallucinates 16% of the time. Their newer o3 model? 33%. Their newest o4-mini? 48%. Nearly half of what their most recent model tells you could be fabricated. The "smarter" models are actually getting worse at telling the truth.
Here's why it can't be fixed. Language models work by predicting the next word based on probability. When they hit something uncertain, they don't pause. They don't flag it. They guess. And they guess with complete confidence, because that's exactly what they were trained to do.
The researchers looked at the 10 biggest AI benchmarks used to measure how good these models are. 9 out of 10 give the same score for saying "I don't know" as for giving a completely wrong answer: zero points. The entire testing system literally punishes honesty and rewards guessing.
So the AI learned the optimal strategy: always guess. Never admit uncertainty. Sound confident even when you're making it up.
OpenAI's proposed fix? Have ChatGPT say "I don't know" when it's unsure. Their own math shows this would mean roughly 30% of your questions get no answer. Imagine asking ChatGPT something three times out of ten and getting "I'm not confident enough to respond." Users would leave overnight. So the fix exists, but it would kill the product.
This isn't just OpenAI's problem. DeepMind and Tsinghua University independently reached the same conclusion. Three of the world's top AI labs, working separately, all agree: this is permanent.
Every time ChatGPT gives you an answer, ask yourself: is this real, or is it just a confident guess?

The answer to "How did these Ancient People do this????" is basically always
1. A lot of dudes. Just a ton of fucking people from beginning to end of the process.
2. Ancient people weren't stupid, they just figured shit out the same way we do: fuck around until you find out.
3. We're gonna plan this out and it's gonna take ten fucking years, and you will cope.
4. Sticks and string are surprisingly versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes, like moving stuff and making sure things are even and go in the spot you wanted to put them in!
5. I want to make this easier and more efficient to move. If I put this on the round thing and push, it will move. If I put this in water, it will move. If I get some animals and rope and have a whole bunch of them drag it, it will move. All of these things are a better option than one guy trying to pick the whole fucking thing up.

A lot of Homestuck is narrated in second person, since it's got some old school text adventure game mechanics.
To help distinguish who's typing in the instant message chat logs that make up a lot of the dialogue, the alien characters all type in unique varieties of leetspeak. These are referred to as "typing quirks."
The alien characters are eusocial, vaguely bug-like, and start life out as caterpillars, hatched from eggs laid by a mother grub.
After pupating and then making it through grueling trials in their hatchery, the alien kids are essentially feral children raised by wolves (and other monsters) and attended to by robots until they're drafted into the galactic military and taken off-world as adults.
Homestuck does on fact have everything in it because it deals with the creation of new universes.
The creator of Homestuck published it on his site, "MS Paint Adventures," and as a gag, there's a maid in Homestuck named Ms. Paint.
One of the alien kids in Homestuck is a religiously devout stoner whose eusocial caste makes him an incredibly powerful warrior. The one time he sobers up he learns that his religion was based on the Insane Clown Posse from earth and goes on a killing spree. Then he gets calmed down and gets high again.
To make a new universe in Homestuck, the characters have to breed frogs until they get a perfect Genesis Frog that's capable of holding an entire universe inside of it.
One of the alien kids, Karkat Vantas, uses a magic instant message chat client to chat with himself in the past and future, and gets into very stupid arguments with himself. Notably, time travel is exceedingly dangerous and must be done with great care to avoid paradoxes and Doomed Timelines, but Karkat's arguments are inconsequential enough that it has no effect on the timeline.
