We have been camping since Friday, but yesterday I went to @thehappygrapewinebar to work on the mural. Lots of artists come in once a year for the #indieartfest and collab to cover the wall on the back patio in colorful art. It was my first time participating, and I forgot to snap pictures. So I'm showing you a sketch of some roses that I drew, because thats what I added. Big red roses and leaves. The rain started up right as I was finishing up, and the kids and huz were text asking if I was done yet. Perfect timing. We picked up Chinese food and sat in the camper playing cards while the rain poured. We all went to bed happy and full. I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor day weekend! Talking to Claudia each day about school has made me really see how sweet she is. I always knew, but as she matures and becomes a young woman I see her heart more and more. She sees when her peers are posturing to look tough, she understands that a bully is usually not getting enough of something at home. She has such a heart for other people, and she is so innocent. My prayer is that she influences others and is not hardened by the negativity. She told me that middle school is fun but it's also hard. She and her friends are such sweet girls, I want the world to just let them be sweet girls. My first assignments in the books! Based on a piece by Heather Galler, one of my favorite artists, we used oil pastel and water color (or crayon and water color for the kindergartners and 1st graders). It actually ends up being a bit of a science experience too, because we talk a lot about how oil and water not mixing leads to the texture of the piece. I have always been guilty of making things happen. I had a hard time letting things, allowing things to happen. I would get in there and man handle every piece and part, like I was directing "ok people none of this is believable at all... Back to one. Action!" Like a chubby sticky kid hand grabbing a butterfly, too intense, over excited. . There were sweet moments, that I'd love to relive. I know that's not how it works. I know that even wanting that is an issue, I'm not regretting, or past focused. But as God as my witness, if that sweetness ever came my way again I'd do it right. My cousin lost her fight with addiction over the weekend. Her kids lost their mother, her parents lost a daughter, her siblings lost, her friends lost, we lost... I hope she feels peace and knows comfort now. I hope she is at rest. . Please lift her family up in prayers for comfort and strength.
