For many years, I've carried a pocket notebook in which I inscribe daily musings, documentary information, grocery lists, etc., etc. These informational notes find their way into the art journals that are most often completed back home in my studio. Fully completed notebooks are archived in handmade book boxes.

according to my current artteacher M.C.Escher is a "comicartist" The guy is a good man, but what the FRIDGEMAGNET?!? I HATE that so much, how everything that isnt appearing in the natural world is comic in his view. He encourages abstraction and simplification with subjects, but if you dont simplyfy it a specific way, he will call it comic. HE DOES NOT TALK DOWN TO COMICS! And knows that comics are a valid artform. I am just aggrivated that he, as an artteacher, doesnt know what COMIC is, and irritated that he insists that he knows!

2025 outtakes 🎬 ended one era 🩷➡️🖤 started another - pt 2!
Might’ve lived life a little too hard in 2025 😅 maybe that’s also evident from this taking me 2 weeks into 2026 to put together 😆 but I’ve put a lot of thought into reviewing last year and starting this one. Social media tends to be folks’ highlight reel but since this year’s had some polar highs and lows I thought it would be fitting and helpful to me to explore / reflect on my own highs and lows!
2025’s Highs:
1. Gagachella for my 30th!
2. Co-curating the Born This Way Exhibition
3. Made $3k from solely art in May!
4. Beautiful days / nights with friends not even pictured here bc it’s too much to fit in one post 🖤 but yall know who u r
5. Meeting the insanely talented people I never thought I’d get to meet pictured in this post!
2025’s Lows:
1. Car totaled on Halloween :’(
2. Financial insecurity
3. Health issues (but also healed from some!)
4. Controversy / injustice surrounding work / art
5. Special occasions that didn’t go as planned
Some of you know I choose words of the year and the past few have been a bit melded / multi-themed. I think “healing” has a been pretty central word I’ve tacked onto the past two years, and within them— 2024’s words were reckoning / retribution, 2025’s was justice and for 2026 I’m stuck between reward / abundance…by comparison I think that means it’s gonna be a good year 😘
I wrote a whole magazine about strawberries, so of course I had to paint a strawberry plant for one of the articles.
