Syn called me from Greece today and I wish you so you could have talked to her too.

Last night, we had the worst thunder and lighting storm I've ever seen, not gonna lie I was very scared. it was almost the whole night of listening and seeing it go on. The days and nights like these I wish you were here even more, don't get me wrong I always want you to be here with us. Your birthday is coming up here in a couple days, mom and I have a day planned to celebrate you and your birthday.. I wish we weren't celebrating the day without you.

I miss you so much every single damn day. Whoever said, "time heals all wounds" LIED.. Because, every damn seems harder and harder. I wish that I could bring me back home to us... I would give up anything in this world to have more time with you. My mom and baby sister are broken, lost, hurt and depressed with out you around and I hate seeing them this way... I am doing anything and everything I can to help mom and take as much stress off her as I can.. Right now, Syn is off in Greece with her boyfriend and I know she wishes you were here so she could tell you all about it. Please watch over her and make sure she comes home to us safe. I love you so much and I'm so sorry that I missed all the important moments that I should have been there for, I regret it so much but you more than anyone else knows what I was going through, you would be so proud of me... I am doing A LOT better now, I am making major life changes for the best, i wish you were here to see and go down this next chapter of my life with me. I miss you so much every day that passes.. Your birthday is just around the corner and we have the whole day planned out to celebrate you.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Betye Saar who passed away on July 26th, only four days before turning 100 years old.

Saar was a celebrated contemporary American artist (1926 - 2026) and leading figure of the Black Arts Movement in the 1970s. Through visual storytelling, Saar’s assemblage work often confronts American racism, colonialism, and stereotypes of Black people in this country.
