thinking (not for the first time) about carl and the dungeon anarchist's cookbook. a book that contains the knowledge, experiences, grief, hope, rage, despair, resignation, and determination of 22 seasons of dungeon crawlers. of a book that is the legacy of dozens, the tomb that they buried their hearts and hope in before the dungeon claimed their bodies. and how carl reads and learns from those experiences, reads and feels their pain and rage, and turns the "one day" mentioned so often in the book into "today." how carl unites people through his determination and care for everyone left on earth and his refusal to let them die. how he says "fuck you" to mordecai's claim that he can't save everyone and has saved tens of thousands of people repeatedly. how he does everything he can to make those that gain from the crawl suffer for ever daring to profit off it. how he is the hope and resilience of earth, and he is their vengeance. how he unites people repeatedly, gives them a real tangible chance of killing the ones who did this to them. how, despite telling the cookbook and those who came before him that he is doing this for his people, he is still Their vengeance too. god i love DCC

I feel like in duos there’s usually the reasonable one and the insane one but with Carl and donut you look at them and think the cat is the insane one only to find out not only are both or them insane but Donut is the more reasonable one

being a kid and hearing adults say stuff like "woah 2011 was 4 years ago haha" didn't really convey the fucking horror of a youtube video crossing my recommended labelled "9 years ago" and it's from 2017. that's not true. 9 years ago is 2010 or something. don't lie.

i literally love saying "ON IT BOSS!!!!!" whenever someone asks me to do something like i'm some sort of henchman. it doesn't matter if they're my boss or not for real even because in the moment they are, and whatever they requested of me i'm on it

I genuinely appreciate how obsession doesn't try to frame bear as morally grey but just fully leans into how deplorable he is. a lesser movie would have tried to give him redeeming moments along the way but no, at every single crossroads bear makes the wrong choice. when the customer service rep asks him if he wants to cancel his wish, he says no, and asks to alter it. when nikki, the real one, begs him to kill her, he asks her "if it would be so bad to love him", and right at the end, backs out of killing himself and tries to throw the pills up. he is the villain, not another victim, not a confused, cowardly boy, the villain.

Once you start noticing how the incapacity to handle discomfort affects how people live their lives it's actually pretty shocking how it ruins pretty much every conceivable aspect of existence. Interpersonal relationships, romantic and platonic. Career and education opportunities. Your politics Your willingness to go anywhere. The kind of food you eat. The kind of art you expose yourself to and your ability to read it. It's never just one thing, it touches everything, and once you notice it it's like suddenly being able to see germs or something. Just this horrific catastrophe people look at you askance for screaming about. As I grow older and see what became of my friends and peers who could not learn to handle discomfort, the more I'm like. This is a genuine societal issue

Increasing my discomfort tolerance has also been one of the greatest assets to improving my mental health.

"Why would this character be jealous of their friend's romantic relationships? Clearly they're in love with them" I don't know if you guys have ever Had Friends but it's actually pretty common for people to feel jealous if their best friend suddenly has less time for them and is prioritising someone they just met over them. That's not inherently romantic, that's the general human desire to be valued by the people you value.
