Do you sometimes struggle in big or small ways in social online gaming worlds (such as FFXIV)?

I know you might be shy to respond to this (I'm shy, too!), but please tell me about your feelings or experiences! Even if it's just something short (ie. I'm anxious to run roulettes, I nope out of art parties, I wish I knew how to make gaming friends, I'd like to RP but... etc.).

Let me know where you feel social anxiety or introversion causes you to not do all the things you wish you could do in your online game of choice.

I have a project in mind that I'd like to develop for shy and introverted gamers - I will share this as soon as I get things in place, but I'd like to understand folks better in the meantime!

The gist of it is that early MMO interactions have made me sort of terrified of doing group content. I picked healer usually and that meant that a lot of the time others just saw me as a tool to their advantage. As a kid I quit MMOs the moment a dungeon came in sight knowing I'd have to group up with strangers with expectations I couldn't foresee. Furthermore, the experience I had later on with dungeons in GW2 was not the best, to say the least. So there was baggage. Then all that baggage was brought along to FFXIV.

To keep it brief: if I can skip group content, I will. Though it pains me to miss some of the better stories in the game. For some people group content is the height of everything and the reason for FFXIV existing, but for me it gives me stress over being good enough to exist in the same space as the others, stress that if I die too often I will be hated by at least one healer, stress that I'll be too focussed on the boss and miss someone dying that the healer cannot reach and thus I as the SMN should pick up instantly according to some really vocal voices in the past, and stress that as a parent I may be called away at any given moment and thus fail the party. Attempts at getting into raids or extremes or even Eureka in the past have ended in some terrible headspaces, leaving me not too eager to try again.

How many is too many? Not counting Grand Company tickets.

A handy little tip, you can set your gil allowance in the teleport menu, just so you don't have to fuss around with it. I won't give any more gil to Lolorito but you can set your allowance to like 999 just so you don't have to pay the most expensive ports.

Just going from my house to Ultima Thule or Heritage Found is 1400. I don't wanna know what the Evercold ports are gonna be.
