Will you allow me to lament for a moment? I don't do this often, but I discovered something today that has made me sad.
As some might know, I've been working on a long-term goal of obtaining the Red Allagan Node mount from Frontlines PVP for Amon. While I do appreciate rewards in the Series tracks along the way, it's really this mount that I've wanted, and have been working on for several years now.
When I switched Amon to be my main last year, I also switched his Grand Company to Adders since that's his in character GC. What I didn't know was... that sorta borks the 200 win PVP achievement.
So, I noticed today after I won - and have won 3 times this week - the achievement didn't seem to be progressing.
I hadn't been paying all that much attention to it since I'd switched. But today, I took note that I still had 141/200 wins before and after today's winning match.
I took to the net to discover something heartbreaking.
If you change GC, you soft reset your progress on some PVP achievements.
Meaning, because this character has 141 wins with the Flames, when I changed with Amon to Adders, I'd have to work up to 141 MORE wins with the Adders in order to start progressing it again!
I was horrified, and sadly switched back to Flames.
My net loss... 24 wins. I lost 24 wins on this achievement not knowing this was a thing. I could have been 165/200 by now. :(
That may not sound like a lot, but for me, it is. I'm not a natural PVPer, so I have to muster the energy to do Frontlines, and generally only play once a day while I'm working on a Series track. So, this was basically two Series' worth of loss for me - more or less, half a year's effort.
Why does it work that way?
Anyhow, I know that I'll eventually earn the mount if I keep at it, but this was really discouraging. Red Node already felt so far away, but now I have to switch to a GC that's not fitting for Amon's character story in order to remake all the progress I lost, and I'm set back so much time and effort.
I guess I'll just have to continue to PVP when I'm done with the Series and pray for wins.
Thanks for listening, folks.
