i, personally, don't hate this trope at all. but i can see why it can be exhausting to watch. while it's very romantic, some shows just use it as "I Love You Please Go Out With Me". and that's it? right?

but bbs took it and owned it. it has become a symbolism. and it's really nice and refreshing to see.

it wasn't added just because nanon can sing or bec ohm can play drums. it's not there as a mere plot device. but it was used as a way to constantly represent pran's feelings about:

meeting pat = him composing just friends

losing pat = losing his guitar and choosing not to play again

meeting pat again = using his guitar again, continuing just friends, composing our song

being with pat = finishing our song, performing our song for pat, and performing just friends with pat again (and no one stopping them)

and with pat:

seeing pran perform their song with someone else

keeping his guitar while he was away (i dont believe his bs when he said he tried to sell it online, he had this 0.0001% hope he's gonna meet pran again)

giving it back to him when they met again

being able to perform just friends with pran completely
