I agree the “shippers ruin fandom” crowd can be painfully self-righteous and obnoxious, not to mention oversimplifying stuff, but I can’t stand when shippers respond “Shippers are the only ones keeping this fandom alive! We’re the only ones who analyze and think deeply about the characters and story!” 1. You just make the fandom sound worse to outsiders if it’s carried by shipping 2. People can and have analyzed writing and characters in depth without shipping
