I believe you can get some stuff covered privately by charitable groups but don't quote me on that. I have heard people rec Easter Seals but I believe they only help people age 19 and younger, at least the ontario one.

to my understanding, the route most people go to get wheelchairs exactly for them, is to get referred to a physiotherapist who helps them figure out the make and model and different stuff like seat height/tilt, etc. Then you get it custom ordered.

you should be able to get your GP to refer you to a physio for this.
