These places are sometimes magical, overloaded with elements, colours and stories, guarded by these characters who are sometimes touching, funny, quirky, and at times frightening. 

The photos that I take are often the only memory that this “Guardian” will have of him/herself in their daily environment. This photo can be the only visual record of the existence of this place, the only photographic memory. People pay less and less attention to their environment. They are always in a hurry, they don’t take the time to spend time with one another. Unfortunately, these places will one day no longer be around. This is one of the reasons that compelled me to want to document these “guardians”.

A metaphor for what?

If I could have said it non-metaphorically, I would not have written all these words, this novel; and Genly Ai would never have sat down at my desk and used up my ink and typewriter ribbon in informing me, and you, rather solemnly, that the truth is a matter of the imagination.

There is no shelter to protect them from the bitter cold. Their help will save my family’s lives from starvation and may help them flee Gaza soon after the crossings are opened soon.

I know that most of you are desperate and bored of constantly asking us for help. But how many times do you see the world and governments that did not look at us with mercy?

The original post annoyed me not because I think it’s a mainstream opinion that needs to be taken seriously, but because it’s part of a larger trend of hypocrisy I’ve noticed among leftists. Construction is an important trade that takes a lot of skill and knowledge, but things like inspections and engineering can be done by anyone with a passing interest in architecture. Worker’s rights and safe working conditions are of the utmost importance, but actual safety regulations and building codes are just bureaucracy meant to keep us dependent on the government. You should unionize and demand the full value of your labor, but tradespeople who charge a fair price are scum and union members who retire millionaires after a lifetime of manual labor are class traitors who get the wall. We need to respect blue collar workers and how difficult their work is, but also we should abolish the division of labor because those jobs are so simple that people can just take a class in high school to learn how to do them. A lot of leftists claim to respect labor but constantly show that they still buy into the “blue collar labor is unskilled work for people too stupid for academia” stereotypes.

Capitalism is destined, doomed, to fail. Its own ethos of expansion at all costs, of prioritising profit over human life and Earth itself, means there will inevitably come a day when there is nothing left to make. Every drop of fuel, every scrap of biomass, every gram of ore will have been used up in its ceaseless quest to make Things, which no-one now has any money to buy. Capitalism is a death spiral and, left unchecked, will take down the entire planet.

instead of child sexual abuse being interpreted as a result of ageism, power imbalances, the patriarchy, the failings of the nuclear family model and numerous institutions at large, and so on and so forth, it is now the work of the ever present pedxphxle ( o, i ) , simultaniously nobody you know and everybody you know at once, supposedly lurking on every street, every playground, and in whichever political party or minority you currently wish to slander.

instead of abuse and crime overall being the result of social circumstances, racism, sexism, and so on and so forth, it is now the narcissist, the sociopath, the psychopath, and whichever other scary, big word pop - psychology can get it's grubby hands on to sell you as many self - help books and youtube channels as they can.

do not fret, dear reader, the system isn't the problem, it is the secret monster hiding in your midst and we can help you identify and ostracize it, or so we will have you believe.

perhaps it is because believing that there is a common enemy that can be defeated and slaughtered is easier than working together to rebuild the systems which hold us back.

either way, the end is certain. if there is a specific type of individual, which represents all that is evil and wrong in the world, and we are to believe what we are told, that this very embodiment of malice is without hope and will always hurt people and never change, then what conclusion should we draw from that?
