Your usual morning coffee run three weeks ago, didn't go off to the smoothest of starts; you ending up dashing to work to avoid being reprimanded by your boss. It didn't help that you'd been late a couple of times in the last month already due to road closures. He let those slide; thankfully. However, the cause of your lateness was no other than a blonde haired gentleman with a sweet smile, who kindly offered to make up for staining your crisp white shirt with brown coffee. Your schedules struggled to match, until today.
Heading to the table where the fair haired man is residing, staring into his half drunken cup of coffee, you tentatively settle the mug down being midnful not to lose a drop.
Johnny is pleasantly stunned by your presence, his gentlemanlike qualities springing into action; arching forward to push out the chair for you. The table wobbles. "Shi -"
"Almost," you quip, smiling. He's quick to reciprocate, his own smile equally fond. "That would have been a deja-vu."
"A disaster at best," Johnny chuckles, motioning for you to sit opposite. "I'm glad you made it," he shares, sliding several notes across the table.
You raise a brow in puzzlement. "You could have just pinged the dough across."
Johnny reaches into his jacket pocket, waving an older generation flipphone. It's resorted back to its original hibernation spot. "Good ole fashioned money exchange it has to be I'm afraid," he shares, taking a sip.
"Well, regardless of the methods, I'm extremely grateful for the offer of patching up the mishap," you explain, words tainted with sincerity. "Though the same can't be said for the shirt."
He winces, mouthing an apology. His hands curl around the exterior of the mug when Johnny leans forward. Those blue eyes meet your own. "So did you solve the case?"
"The case?" You reiterate.
"You briefly explained about a mishap of someone stealing in your department - somewhere between our texts," Johnny explains.
Your brow arches, perplexion briefly taking hold before you smile softly at the revelation. "Ah. I did, I found the culprit who happened to keep taking all of high quality biscuits." You raise a finger wiggling your brows. "Though, plot twist-" Johnny's interest piques further. "It was in fact no other than my boss." You chuckle softly, shaking your head.
"Go figure. Always the least person you expect. They end up being the main culprit." Johnny chuckles warmly. "At least you solved the mystery."
"Yeah. I'm no Miss Marple just yet, but if ever an opening should arise, then I might be inclined to take it up," you muse, draining a portion of your coffee.
Johnny smiles. "I'll be sure to keep that in mind." He winks. "Maybe I'll even stir up some cases for you to solve."
"Oh will you now?" You quip, enjoying the back and forth.
"That would taint the whole point of the exercise," Johnny counters playfully. He swirls the cup, before draining it entirely. A finger juts to your half drunken mug. "Another?"
You feel deflated. Johnny's company is certainly making your morning, though with a jam-packed schedule of errands to run as its your only full day off this week you sadly have to decline his offer; but not without offering an explanation.
His smile falters in response, briefly, before it's resorted in understanding. "Need to crack on before the boss cracks the whip and fills in all the free hours with more hours working to the bone, eh?"
You nod softly, reluctantly draining the mug.
"Another time?" Johnny proposes.
"Another time,' you confirm. Gathering up your belongings, you wish Johnny a farewell. It's cemented by a welcoming, unexpected embrace on his part. You sink into it, appreciating the sincerity and security.
Johnny grins, once the shared moment is broken. His eyes meet yours. "Until next time," he shares, enthusiasm tainting his words.
