( in other way a way of their body slowly dying as response of her using her abilities ).  partnered up with jeon in missions; they are both known as the executioner and death incarnate. no one beyond the walls of the garden knows their real names.

eg. name — jeon ara   abilities. telekinesis / electrokinesis    about. for to accept the serum and turn immortal in order to avoid being parted from kozlova’s side. much to everyone’s surprise the serum simply triggered early the immortality gene in her. in doing so granting her abilities and making her the third descendant from an original immortal within eden. the founder of the resistance, unbeknownst to them. the only other one to rise to an ascension / overcome it as a human and gain a higher status than a soldier besides mallory kozlova. partnered up with kozlova in missions; they are both known as the executioner and death incarnate. no one beyond the walls of the garden knows their real names.

eg. name — hamada jiro   abilities. none    about. hamada is one of the few soldiers that was allowed to train and work as human without having the serum, only because he’d compromised that within eight years from joining the army he’d be turned into a clone. willingly. that could not be fulfilled because within five years of working at the garden, kozlova mutilated him and cut off his hands. ( in retaliation to him attacking jeon ara six months prior ). this in some ways being a breach of his contract, he settled for eventually getting the serum for immortality instead of being cloned.

eg. name — ikra maessen   abilities. none    about. trained as a soldier but when giving the opportunity moved and worked in the med facility of the garden. first as a nurse and working her way to becoming a surgeon in eden. she treats mostly soldiers and works on finding ways to treat clones just like humans. and is the personal doctor of both kozlova and jeon. 

eg. name — kaenna orestev   abilities. none    about. trained alongside jeon ara when she joined the army and later trained by her once ara raised on positions. one of the most loyal soldiers though their views stand either black or white despite the grey areas ara has been trying to make her see for years. is after ara one of the most skilled but does not wishes to arise in positions since she does not see that it would benefit her anyways. kozlova holds highs regards to her ( though would never tell ).

edesgalore. mal & ivan being idiots ( inspo. )

love the idea that after being rescued from the garden, while aggie let her hair grow all out - astoria was actually the opposite and liked to have their hair short. like on these gifs. i also like to think that they were though very wary of ivan at first; eventually became more trusting of him, and was easier for them to become close to ivan than aggie. in comparison, ivan was already biased in regards of agatha because she is mal’s kid but he grew quickly to care for both of them and treat them both as his own.

i do have a hc that astoria developed telekinesis at an early age during their time in the garden. and was able to control it more so than aggie. i believe that they used this to their advantage though ivan always tried to convince both of them to not use these abilities because he was aware that to an extent, it was harmful for both of them. 

i think the night aggie killed them, astoria had barricaded themselves in the room with aggie. often times (during the garden mostly since they would sometimes share rooms), aggie would console astoria if they had a nightmare and vice versa. and that night of the incident, astoria thought they could be able to console aggie and help her wake up from the nightmare. but aggie was so deep in her nightmare that she didn’t seem to be able to come out of it.

i see ivan trying to get astoria out of that room, because aggie’s abilities were acting up. having effects around them while aggie was still fast asleep (it was then that ivan understood just how powerful she was) but astoria being stubborn she would hold ivan back from entering the room they were in. they would approach aggie and the moment the girl would wake up -- all of her abilities collapsing within its own and exploding / destroying and killing everything within its reach and killed astoria in that moment.

the children of the great empire ( cotge ) are a group of people that were raised within the garden as nothing more than an experiment/lab rats. being either left at the garden’s entrance or born within it, themselves. these people were treated not better an animal in a cage. with one immortal ( ares / alive ), two mortals ( agatha / alive & astoria / deceased ) and two a.i ( atlas / active & astra / active in 20s ), the group was something kept a secret for many years. and as rumor has it -- is nothing but a myth.

with the only three humans ( agatha / ares / astoria ) being the sole interest of cosima for the experiments. they were probed and tortured at a young age, for the sole purpose of trying to see what results would come from children born with the serum in their blood that had not yet triggered their immortality gene. with the first a.i ( atlas ) being part of the group, to see how a robot would mimic emotions of its peers and how they would behave. and with the second a.i ( astra ) activated when the humans of this group reached adulthood and forced to join the group to fool its members.

the children were part of what is known cerberus project ; the secret experiment cosima has been working on for centuries now on the children born with the serum but not with the triggered gene of immortality. when ivan finds out about this project, he takes it upon himself to save and protect the kids and with the help of tamsin and cara he manages it to get two of them out of there. rescuing agatha and astoria when they were twelves. atlas purposely left being because ivan knew of the a.i’s true identity, and not having to time to rescue ares because otherwise cosima would’ve caught them.

dead of the one. astoria died tragically at the hand of who they considered family, agatha. who after sufferings night terrors, woke up from a nightmare and unwillingly used their acquired abilities; killing astoria in that moment. 

the experiment. throughout the years cosima has performed experiments on these forgotten kids. hoping she can find a way to trigger their immortality gene before reaching adulthood, but the experiment have ended in the death of many. many while still children, others while in their teens. they never manage to reach their twenties.

the experiment ii. what made this group of kids so particular was not only that two of three managed to survive, but also these probing and torture they were subjected to triggered abilities in some of them. comes as a surprise that ares was able to endure a second doses of the serum and it trigger his immortality. 

the a.i’s. they were placed in the group to see how they would behave and see the other children’s reaction to it. atlas being the first one at the time, the a.i was unaware of its own nature. but managed to defy the orders given at the time and feel something. when passed into an older version of its program, the a.i was granted atla’s 1st, memories but feelings were blocked. they were still able to defy orders and break through the barrier, and old feelings resurfaced. astra being the second a.i, she was placed on the group as a replacement for astoria. and while they are aware of their own nature -- they are to lie and pretend to be a clone instead, to try and gain the trust of the rest of the group.

eg. name — a.1b2rt / birth name — agatha barlow         abilities. heart manipulation, heat vision, psychokinesis, atmokinesis          about. was born a stillborn on the day of her father’s death at the garden. brought back by teressa silva. she was tortured more than the other kids as a punishment for her father’s betrayal to the garden. eg. name — ar.43gs / birth name — ares riggs        abilities. seismokinesis, ability absorption         about. given up to the garden when only being a few weeks old. his mother gave him up for an exchange at a life within eden without being persecuted for breaking the rules. eg. name — a.31t / birth name — astoria       abilities. telekinesis        about. birthed within the garden, astoria was the product of nova and talon. two people who willingly volunteered for creating kids for the sole purpose of being experimented on. they were rescued alongside aggie at the age of twelve. but when they were fourteen, while trying to console agatha after a nightmare, they were accidentally killed by her. eg. name — a.s.t.r.a / birth name — astra   abilities. none    about. placed as a replacement for astoria in the group. the only a.i aware of its identity and volunteered to see how the humans would react to seeing them. but much like their previous a.i, astra starts sympathizing with the others and wondering about their own reason for agreeing to join the group. eg. name — a.t.l.a.s / birth name — atlas     abilities. none      about. created in order to see how they would behave alongside others and how the kids would react to having an a.i there, they manage to defy every order given to them and always fight back.

i always love talking about elta’s grief and guilt following mal’s death but i love to talk about it more, including ivan’s grief and guilt as well. you see, elta sees it when it happens. and she already is aware that mal knows the truth about her, and then to watch him take his own life before her very eyes is just something that gets engraved in her memory. 

yeah, she also saw her siblings be killed. but this is a different kind of hurt, this was her husband - soulmate and father of her unborn child, taking his own life. and she’s just so helpless in that moment. and it always haunts her after. she can’t help him or stop it, can’t make him understand why she did what did and why she lied. and all she can do is stare and watch it happen and eventually having to deal with the fact that her hiding the truth from him, in some way led to the moment he took his life. and then when the rebels find out about mal being dead, they praise elta as if she was proud of what happened and as if she had wanted that to happen to being with it.

and i always imagine her immediate reaction is something very close to theo in thohh when she touches nell’s body and just starts wailing because of what she feels? something like that very much would’ve been elta’s reaction. which is heart wrenching, when you come to realize that she felt him die too through the bond they shared.  

then ivan, who does not see it happen but is within close proximity that when he reaches the place mal was, he’s one of the first one to find his corpse and is just shock all over again. you see, him trying for the longest time not wanting to accept and admit to the fact that mal was someone he could lose and that there was something more between them - and just thinking that by ignoring it, it would make mal leaving hurt less. but it didn’t. and then mal takes his own life, and he wasn’t expecting that to happen and just like with olga, he finds his body. and is just this immediate shock he can’t shake off, that drives him to practically beg cosima to bring him back

and that in itself surprises cosima as well because ivan -- in all the hundreds and thousands of years they’ve known each other, he’s been nothing but ruthless, and stoic and cold and distant and then he’s before begging her to bring mal back. (which at the time honestly she wasn’t planning to) and is just something she wasn’t expecting to happen. because ivan is like the first time showing his vulnerability since his wife’s death.

and honestly is also traumatic because is not like he’s not seen dead people or haven’t killed people either. but the trauma of having to find his wife and daughter’s body first and then finding mal there like that just... fucks him up again. and then guilt swallows him whole. despite all of this i don’t see him breaking over mal’s death until a few weeks later on his own at his place when it comes crashing down that mal’s gone and is not going to come back ever. (or so he believes) 

you know the verse is really made in what you can tell is a soulmate au composed of you feeling what your soulmate does and stuff like that. and i was thinking that the way ivan would’ve described it at some point was like having a second heart-beat // always knowing this person is around and alive even when you’re away from them. and the fact that ivan, though he kept leaving to protect olga -- he would’ve known she was killed way before he even found her.

it would’ve felt like have a limb tore out -- and though ivan has been physically hurt, shot at, stabbed and almost killed throughout his many centuries alive, nothing ever compared to the pain he felt the moment that soulmate connection was severed between the two of them when she was killed. how the second heart-beat like feeling became more dull as days went by and whereas the feeling would’ve gotten stronger when he was near her, it just became increasingly weak instead.

how he beg anything, even for that bond to be severed because of whatever odd reason but not because she was dead and the moment he arrived back home and wei lín told him olga had been missing for days, he just knew. yet still hoped that wasn’t the case and then when he finds her body... hers and the one of their new born-child. already festering away and there is nothing he can do about it. to change it, to hold them both -- his worst fears became a reality and this time not only losing his wife but his child. having that connection severed that made him physically ill even.

you think about ivan on eden and you hate what he is, selfish, reckless, doing everything for himself and attempting to not care about anyone else (which he fails at miserably), and you hate that. you hate how he betrays everyone and hurts everyone around him -- purposely so. because if he can hurt them, if he can push them away -- then no one else will take them from him. and then you look back at what he went through and you think - oh.

i like to think as well that he hated the idea of ever having a second companion/bond thing happen to him again. having to know there is somewhere out there, who shares this with him and possibly going through something that would rupture the bond... is horrible; but this someone being a person he knows, just makes it worse. and he selfishly begs to never obtain a companion again. the idea of having to lose another person yet again - like that? nah, he rather be the bad guy, he rather do the hurting and the pushing everyone else away.

you see, ivan and elta’s hatred for each other is not sorely based on the fact that they feel like their losing mal to the other. though mainly, it goes beyond that. i’ve always headcanon that elta’s brother and twin sister died because ivan of all people killed them. this was in effect to them trying to protect a clone at the time. which landed them in cosima’s blacklist and if that wasn’t all -- they were also rebels so therefor already targets to cosima and ivan.

so we got that. we also get that though she didn’t die with her siblings, she was supposed to and simply for being lucky enough and managing to escape she didn’t. which of course, is bad because out of the three siblings that were supposed to die, only two did.

then there isn’t an encounter between the two for years until mal is like hey ivan ya want to meet this girl i fell in love with and the reason i’m breaking the rules from the garden? and to his surprise is no other than elta. and to her very horrendous surprise, this person mal talked about as if he was the best thing to ever exist is no other than her siblings’ killer.

[ i pictured that the jacobs were killed before mal joined the army. the records of their death would not be something that he has access to and so therefor wouldn’t know much of elta. also i believe elta would’ve lied about her name which fits into the whole my wife is a stranger narrative for mal which is why he eventually leaves elta. and though elta also knew who malacai was when she fell for him, she wasn’t expecting for his best friend to be no other than kozak ]

i feel like that first time talking to each other would’ve been bad. really bad. and mal takes this as if ivan was worried that he was breaking the rules (which in retrospect, he also was) and that elta is just wary because they are after all, cosima’s right hand. so he reassures elta that they won’t ever do any harm to her and to ivan that he’ll be careful not to get caught.

then cue ivan and elta being alone and him asking her if mal knows who she really is. and saying things like, i could take you back to cosima. back to the garden... that way you’ll finally be with your siblings. which... low blow kozak. but the only reason i feel like he wouldn’t have at the time, is because elta pulls the i am malacai’s soulmate. card which would be a very much of a surprise since mal never told him about it. and then you know, he is aware that whatever happens to elta will also happen to malacai. which means that if elta were to be taken back to garden and punished / tortured / or hurt in any other way, he’d feel it... and yes, he cares about mal enough not to want him to go through with that because after centuries, he still very much remembers what it felt like when olga died.

but then we have the eight years after that moment filled with tension and them wanting to kill each other at all times. nothing more than a few smiles and a polite laugh for the sake of mal if he’s in the room with them, otherwise elta would’ve always been wanting to kill him. after all, ivan did killed her siblings. then is worst with feeling like mal cares more about ivan than her. and then ivan having that sense of being betrayed and feeling like mal will change his life and leave everything for elta (which he does.)

and i have hcs of various instances where elta is talking about it with mal and cue an argument breaks out because she just doesn’t understand what is so good about ivan. while mal not understanding why she dislikes ivan so much. then the same thing happens between mal and ivan, but mostly just ivan wanting for mal to know the truth that elta is a rebel but not having the hear to just tell him and he ends up saying things like are you sure she is who she says she is or other things like what would you do if she turned out to be a rebel. but never really explaining where those questions and doubts come frome.

then we fast-forward to the year mal dies and the moment ivan betrayed him and how he told cosima everything he knew. and then cosima sends ivan and a group of soldiers to retrieve elta and to get her back to the garden and just imagine, a very pregnant elta opening the door to her home. first thing she sees is ivan, though never enjoying seeing him around because it really makes her want to punch him and throw up at the same time, she is first scared. thinking like something happened to mal. then she notices the way he is carrying that i’m about to fuck shit up smile and before she can do anything, there are other four soldiers going into her house and restraining her and she knows, she knows ivan gave them up.

and that is a painful moment on its own, with the fact that she is nine months pregnant, about to give birth. hurting because her husband left three months ago to go back to the garden and she hasn’t heard anything from him and these people don’t give a crap for it. i’m pretty sure one hits her at the back of her head to get her to comply and just not giving a fuck that she’s pregnant and ivan would just stand there and tell her like i told you i’d get you back there one day.

and if he tried to move closer to help her up and get her out, then something like the gifset above would happen. and yes, she’d be hurt but not for herself but for mal. because she knows ivan is more than capable of being the worst person ever. but she thought that at least, at the very least he cared about malacai enough to not give them up. but she was wrong about that too.

after that we fast forward to another two months after that moment after she was left for them and later rescued by other rebels, and how every single time elta was more than willing to die fighting ivan but ivan would not give in and just like push her aside and just go. because she was at best (for lack of better words) suicidal after both mal and her daughter died. and she knows that taking on ivan with her bare hands is just as well as a suicide mission but ivan refused to engage on that. because despite the fact that he doesn’t like her, can’t stand her. he pities her. especially with the whole losing a spouse and a child within the same day because he’s been there too. and he knows what she feels like and is going through.

but elta’s hatred towards him never goes away and if anything it grows. yeah, she blames herself for mal’s suicide but she also blames ivan for it. because they both kept things from him but ultimately ivan was the one who betrayed malacai by telling cosima everything. and even mal when he is cloned and brought back thinks so too, and he says it like my wife lying to me was painful. but nothing hurt having the only person i thought i had left betrayed me like that. (that being the fact that ivan knew mal’s brother was alive, that he knew who elta was and on top of that, telling cosima everything and having elta brought back to the garden to be tortured).

and if that wasn’t enough, elta later learns that ivan did not only knew aggie was alive, he rescued her and kept her safe for the last ten years? before aggie finds her. and that only enrages her more, and she’d throw that at as his face like you talk about knowing my pain. understanding what i went through? that’s bullshit! had you known anything about that hurt, that heartbreak of losing one’s child and spouse you would have given her back to me!!! and is something she hates the most, even more than ivan killing her siblings. because ivan saw her during that time lapse, he knew how elta had been hurting and grieving and looking for her lost daughter and he never said anything.

more info dump about eden that literally no one have asked for. cause i was just thinking about malacai being a clone and how everyone he knows hates it but also how much he hates it too. elta, just because she has a grudge against a clone because thanks to her siblings giving refuge to a clone is what got them killed. but mal himself because clones can be controlled and that is something he hates. and is all rooted in his childhood. like for starters, he’s one of those that were born after the ban of children meaning his parents had to keep him and his brother hidden away because they technically shouldn’t have been alive.

but his parents were not only abusive but controlling and things go worse after his brother disappeared when mal was 14 and his brother 18. how suddenly he found himself alone and had to suffer all of that on his own and that would be when mal first attempted to his life. he was 16 and tried to kill himself but his parents found him and saved him. which then they throw at him because he’s not even supposed to exist, now they had to go out of their way to find a way of keeping him alive because if he died, it meant that the body would need to be reported and that way it could be tracked back to them, making it known that they had broken the no-child ban and in that way getting punished.

which mal hates, he hates because he won’t even be allowed to die and that even is taken from him and controlled by his parents. who make sure to tell him so.

so once he’s older and part of cosima’s army, i feel like he would’ve make it known that he never wanted to be cloned because he didn’t want to be controlled. and i’m pretty sure he would’ve told ivan this. like just one day mal would tell him like if i ever die, please don’t let them clone me. and while is really not an odd request or that big of a deal, it is something that you wouldn’t expect from malacai. or anyone really, because if you aren’t an immortal -- then you can be cloned and still live forever you know???

but mal doesn’t want to live forever, hell he doesn’t want to be alive to begin with and he wants someone to know so. and someone that can do something about it and that is pretty much his only friend, ivan. who would’ve been nonchalant about it and would’ve been like what’s so bad about it anyways to which mal of course says, my life consisted of someone controlling everything about me... before i got here... if i ever die -- the last thing i want is to be turned into one of those things. and then proceed to say the thing that everyone knows because is not really a secret that i came here to die. because he did...

because he was eighteen years old and also ran away from his home, thinking his brother had been dead for four years -- and not wanting to off himself because he thought someone else would find him and make him stay alive... he went straight to the garden thinking that would get him killed only to be granted a second chance. which he appreciates, he does. but he’s just gotten worse through the years. let that hate and hurt fester away and he knows that one day whether on a mission gone wrong or by him being done for -- he’ll die. and he wants that to be it. no life after it. no cloning. no nothing.

and i like the idea of ivan agrees to keep that promise just to be done with the conversation. but then fast forward eleven years to the moment mal kills himself and the very first thing ivan does is beg cosima to bring him back. to clone him and bring him back. because im dramatic like that.
