chigiri had a towel draped over the back of his neck to continuously wipe his face. his hair kept sticking to his forehead, leaving him no choice but to sit beneath the dining area’s ceiling fan. you wanted to join him, but to be alone with a man as absurdly gorgeous as chigiri? you wouldn't survive at all.

sprawling across the couch seemed a far more comfortable and safer choice. besides, it wasn’t like there was a door that separated both of you. you could still steal glances of how restless he was about his long strands. it left you feeling hot and bothered in a different way.

“and I keep on telling you! i need you to repair the broken thing right now!”

you flinched from reo's annoyance as you felt a headache slowly coming. your a/c had suddenly stopped working sometime in the middle of the night. it had long been due for a checkup and a cleanup—so you knew that this was eventually going to happen.

today was just that unlucky day. 

he had been on the patio for a while now, likely on his fifth call to ask someone to repair it. he was so fussy about it too—simply making sure that this was everyone’s problem. he even suggested that all of you should’ve stayed in his penthouse this summer.

you didn’t notice how chigiri left his seat until you heard his voice near the screen door. “can you just get back inside, reo?” he tried to say softly, but his furrowed brows gave away his irritation. “you have the money to buy us one. so quit bothering people who don’t want to work in this heat!”

“princess, we are renting this place! don’t you understand that we’re responsible for repairing or checking up on our stuff in the first place?”

there they go again. you let out a quiet sigh, resting your head back against the cushion. it was way too suffocating to play the mediator today. if anything, their bickering was only making the room feel hotter.

the least they could all do was keep their mouths shut—like how nagi was silently sitting on the floor beside you. he was in his own little world, completely absorbed in his game.

you ruffled his hair before pushing off from his shoulder to stand up, quickly making your way to the kitchen to get some water.

relief washed over you. something simple like drinking a glass of cold water was all you needed to make yourself feel less stuffy. it was so soothing that you failed to notice someone approaching until his arms suddenly encircled you. one hand held his phone; the other was reaching for your glass.

“(n/n)-chi, let me drink.” nagi’s head dipped to your shoulder, his breath fanning your neck. 

his nose grazed the outside shell of your ear while he lowered his phone onto the counter. 

his free hand slid along your arm before gently wrapping around yours. 

he felt so warm. 

you hadn’t realized how he’d trapped you in completely. 

nagi’s quiet presence did not change the fact that he was undeniably huge.

you tilted your head to meet his gaze, handing your half-filled glass to him. “you know, i was kind of picturing another way of drinking,” he whispered, his face just an inch away from yours.

“what are you doing, nagi?”

reo’s voice cut through your trance from the kitchen doorway. 

a look of unease flashed across his features as he glanced at nagi, before his eyes snapped directly at you. 

his piercing hues seemed to follow your every movement—from the rapid rise and fall of your chest to the subtle way you squirmed under his undivided attention. 

chigiri leaned against the frame beside him, watching the scene unfold with a raised eyebrow, a glint of amusement in his eyes, and a charmingly annoying smirk.

“what is it, reo? (n/n)-chi was just letting me drink.”

“careful now, nagi.” chigiri drawled, his smirk widening. “we don’t want reo to pounce on (y/n) right here in the kitchen.”

“i wasn’t going to do anything!”

a minute of awkward silence passed by before you set your glass down, also wriggling your way out of nagi’s arms. “right,” a sheepish smile spread across your face—an awkward laugh slipping past your lips. you felt as if the heat in the kitchen was going to swallow you whole. nothing in this suffocating atmosphere could possibly help you cool down. 

“i need some air,” you whispered, quick in your steps to avoid chigiri and reo.

however, cool fingers trailed down your spine until they reached the small of your back, forcing you to face him. chigiri caught you by your waist, stopping you dead in your tracks. “aren’t you running away so soon?” he purred, leaning close enough for his breath to brush your ear—his pinky carefully stroking your neck down to your collarbone.

“unless,” he mischievously grinned, “you planned all of this.”

your face flushed violently. 

how could he accuse you of something you totally had no control over? 

that was beyond ridiculous.

absolutely beyond your imagination.

or was it?

you practically scrambled for the front door, only for a shadow to loom over your figure—your hand barely touching the doorknob. firm hands slammed against the wood beside your head, caging you instantly. one reached for your jaw, urging you to turn to him. reo was a few inches away, breathing unevenly, his glare filled with frustration. 

a small whimper escaped your lips before you had the chance to stop it. “are you happy about the problem you’ve caused?” he asked, still cupping your face to prevent you from looking away.

“idiot,” you spat out. your heartbeat pulsated from your ears, “i’m innocent.”

you were squirming beneath his grip, “let me go.”

he hummed at your words, his eyes dropping to your lips before meeting yours again. “you don’t know what you’re doing to us,” his voice dropping an octave lower, “especially to me.” he murmured, your noses almost touching. 

reo looked at you. pleading. demanding. desperate. he was devastated like a dog you’ve been ignoring for a while. so hurt and so vulnerable in your presence. “there—” stumbling over his own words, “there should be enough of you for all of us.”

“wow,” chigiri chuckled from behind reo while he reluctantly slid his hand off your face—slowly retrieving your space. “you never change after all these years,” chigiri slung his arm over reo’s shoulder, “you get to have everything, yet you hold onto things like you can lose them in the blink of an eye.”

chigiri glanced back at you and waved. 

“we’ll see you later, cutie.”
