some people don’t deserve fanfics, much less for free.
also even if authors didn’t tag any specific warnings but they used the “creator chose not to use archive warnings” tag, then that is your warning.
“omg you should’ve —” no one forced your entitled ass to read anything. fanfic writers write for themselves and their own enjoyment. if you don’t like what you’re reading, quietly leave. ao3 is not an airport. no one cares about your departure so no need to announce it.
100% agree. I have deleted and blocked commenters who felt the need to tell me I was required to give them CW/TW when the tags were RIGHT THERE.
Don’t like? Don’t read. But first, read the fucking tags.
As someone who continually gets too excited to read the tags, I've seen some stuff. A lot of good stuff, but also a lot of stuff that had me almost throwing the computer across the room.
Is that the writer's fault? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! My fault entirely!! And I've never ever had the absolute brass balls to complain to the author about it! Not ONCE!! Why? Because it was ALL MY FAULT!! Should've read the tags - they were right there!
Not only do I not comment, but I hit the kudos button - because someone had the absolute nerves of steel and kinks of braided barbed wire to write that stuff, and I'm quite frankly impressed. Because it takes a lot to make me back out! I read *that* scene in Stephen King's IT when I was 9 years old, and if I can make it through that, I can make it through a lot.
Not saying anyone else has to hit the kudos when they read something that makes them supremely uncomfortable, that's a me thing. But yeah - leave the author alone! Don't yuck their yum! Or their other readers' yum, for that matter.
