Derek Hale can hear lies on the beat of someone's heart. Derek can spot a lie by the tell of someone's eyes. He's so good at it; seeing all of these lies and calling out on people's bullshit and their falsities and their ungratefulness and their general filth. He's so disappointed and annoyed and wound up that his nerves and anger wrap themselves tightly into a coil of tangled emotions whenever he's out on the streets, walking around town. He doesn't always want to hear their lies. "Derek, you're such a nice boy," while their heart is thundering in their chests and their eyes are wide and there's a small quiver in their bottom lip. "I'll see you later, yeah?" while they've already half turned their back to him and are speeding up, because they want to get away. The one that stings is "I'm sorry for your loss." and Derek can't handle that lie, because it's really close and personal and people shouldn't be prying into his family matters and they shouldn't pull such faces; the drawn up lip, the furrowed eyebrows, the slanted eyelids and their fucking eyes. Derek will-- can-- never forget those eyes when that lie is said so seriously. So he decides to have his own revenge, his way, against society. Derek can lie. He's spectacular at it. A smile, lifting of his cheeks, dimples showing and eyelids slanting. "Thank you," he thanks and greets them with such vigour that people are generally quite flattered and attracted to it. To this fake Derek.
