To say that Easton was destined to become a figure skater is an understatement. His father was a skating coach in the 90s and his mother was a figure skater. They met through mutual connections and hit it off instantly. They seemed to have a "picturesque" relationship. Having their son created a shift in their career paths and Easton's mom found herself becoming a stay at home mom, leaving her dreams of being a skater behind while his dad's career seemed to blossom.
Easton learned to skate nearly just as early as he learned to walk and it became obvious that his dad saw something in him that he never saw in his wife. He decided to put all of his coaching energy into training Easton. This broke his mom's spirit because she never felt like her husband supported her dreams and when she became pregnant, it just was expected that she'd become a trophy wife and abandon everything to be a doting wife and mother. Still, she loved Easton and supported his dreams.
Whatever Easton wanted he got because he was their only child and as long as he was hitting milestones within the skating world then his dad didn't mind spoiling him. On the other side, his mom spoiled him too because she didn't want to be the least favorite parent. This back and forth of gifts and affection made Easton believe that he was adored by both of his parents and it never occurred to him that he was caught in the middle of a silent battle between them. They always played the part of a happy couple who loved their little family but under the surface they were anything but.
It all came crashing down when his mother finally had enough and aske for a divorce. It came as a shock to both Easton and his father. For Easton it shattered the image he had of his family and for his father, he didn't understand why she would give up the "luxury" life. The divorce couldn't have happened at a worse time for Easton as he was gearing up to go to the Olympics. He couldn't get out of his head and ultimately he ended up scoring too low and not moving forward. He felt like such a disappointment to himself and to his father and his dad didn't make it any easier. Rather than be supportive, as he had always been, he took the divorce out on him (revealing that their relationship was at its best before he was born) and told him he needed to find another coach.
His dad's words stuck with him for awhile. Rather than grow bitter, though, he sought out another coach and decided to prove to his dad that he was not only worthy of his attention again, but better than he ever was. In the years since, he's done everything he can to become the figure skater he dreamed to be and for a brief moment he really thought things were going to work out for him until during a routine check of his equipment, it was discovered that he was using a wax for his skates that wasn't allowed. The moment was soul crushing because he didn't know, his coach didn't tell him, and now he was being faced with a disqualification before he could even prove himself to the world. Now he's just known for his embarrassing disqualification.
Worse yet, though he's not sure his life can get any worse at the moment, his mother is now engaged to another man. So now only have his dreams of being at the Olympics been crushed once again, but now he has to face the reality that his parents may never get back together and somehow he circles it back to himself because if he just could be "perfect" like they used to think, maybe they will put their family back together again.
