general facts
connor clark started out her existence by stealing the spotlight from her twin -- a habit that never really stopped. while Connor was expected, she completely blocked her brother out in the first sonogram images.
as a child, she was was an agile and talented daredevil -- attempting to climb trees and scale bookshelves almost as soon as she could walk. looking to channel her athetlicism (or just to at least wear her out), her parents enrolled her in gymnastics classes at the age of three.
she quickly excelled past the other children her age level, flying past sommersalts and cartwheels in exchange for handsprings and balance beam tricks. she was crowned the youth champion at every compeition in the state, which was followed by being recruited by team USA coaches when she was eleven years old.
while she stayed on top of her schooling, the rigourous training as far more appealing to connor, having her full focus while she handled most other things on autopilot
joined USA olympic gymnastics team as an alternate at fifteen, formal member at nineteen and again twenty three -- closest she got to the podium was a fourth for vault (she missed out by a 10th of a point)
determined to make one more run and finally get a medal, connor was relentless in maintaining her training (something every one of her coaches advised her against), pushing herself over the limit the way she had seen many great atheletes do in order to become the best
years of training and competition had taken their toll, and connor was required to get hip surgery in hopes to repairing the damage. unfortunately, the surgery didn't heal correctly -- connor was forced so retire from gymnastics at the age of twenty-five
as a result of the surgery ending poorly, connor was given prescription drugs to manage the constant pain. when she started physical therapy she was told to slowly wean herself off of them, but she wasn't able to cope. after a tumultuous eight months and a hard rock bottom, she was sent to rehab.
has been out of rehab about six weeks at the time of arrival to the game

Connor: I've had a mild ferris wheel related trauma already this week, I'm unwilling to go through another one
Connor: Don't you think the beach will be crazy crowded?
@pennydurnam
Iris: some people are saying the ferris wheel? but idk
Iris: i'm thinking of reserving a table at skylark if i can, since i think that view will be spectacular
Connor: Ferris was my initial thought
Connor: But then I was stuck on it for fifteen minutes last night with a full view of some girl giving her man a sloppy
Connor: And I don't want to chance repeating that experience

[ π ] is your muse multitalented? what are their hobbies, and why did they pick up these hobbies? if they donβt have hobbies, why donβt they?
"Well, I used to be talented at gymnastics. I used to be a pretty good all-around athelte in general. I'm proud of what I did with it, but I wonder a lot of what my life could have been like if I hadn't made a career out of the thing that made me happiest."

starter: open @aurorabaystarter
where: sea shanty shack stall @ carnival
"Arrrgh, ahoy mateys. Welcome to me ... ship." Forest gestured to the stall around him. His pirate costume uncomfortable and a little too tight in some places. He was currently manning the stall alone as his co-worker was on break for the next thirty minutes. Which was odd because he definitely wasn't used to running the front. "What can I get for you today?" He felt this was punishment after talking to Darcy at the flower festival about how lucky they were Sea Shanty didn't have a stall.
"Exactly," she nods, giving a slightly more playful smile. "Always trust Jeff Goldblum's wisdom."
Her expression softens, Zoe giving an empathetic sigh. "It's... so fucking hard sometimes. Just, you know... That absolute rawness in there, too." She shakes her head. "I can handle it in bursts. Like, I did see my therapist during and after my divorce. But I had to drag myself to damn near every session."
Zoe's lips purse. "It's probably not the healthiest cope, but I find just... filling every block of time with something tends to help Just, you know... BandAid effect." She gives a thoughtful pause. "Those moments of silence hit hard sometimes, though."
@connorsclark
Connor almost wishes the extent of her therapy could have been speaking about a divorce -- at least with a divorce, you could turn some of the blame on another person and how their actions had effected you and the choices you made.
She didn't quite have that luxury in rehab. Really, who else was to blame for the way she'd let herself spiral out of control?
"I have the opposite problem," she sighs with a tilt of her head.
He nodded his head, knowing she was indeed right. But he was never one good at being still. Thus, he found himself at the courts - even if it was simply to watch the game.
"If I have to." he answered with a slight shrug. "I just gotta make sure to knockout the other guy out early in the fight." While not entirely impossible, he would be going up against some of the best amateur fighters in the country. It was a life changing tournament and while he did not expect to win, he did hope to do good enough to stand out. A win by knockout wouldn't be bad at all.
Connor sputters her lips in exhasperation and rolls her eyes, placing her hands on her hips.
"So, what? To you it's worth risking permanent career injury and large-scale embarrassment on some piddly little fight when you could just sit one tournament out and be better the next time you go in?"
Jesus, did she sound like this to her coaches when she'd insist on practicing on injuries?

"Oh, more or less. I mean, our part isn't too bad. But everywhere has everyone running around l-like crazy, so it's just-just bleeding into us."
Rhia held back a sigh of relief at having something more akin to a normal conversation instead of request after request. She loved helping the kids and such around town, but the parents could be quite demanding at times.
"It is good weather thankfully. D-Don't want to be a soaked pixie in the hollow. Water-logged fae isn't a-a great look for me.
β yeah I mean I am more than willing to accept a bear onesie for this situation so that should be easy to acquire. β Kali nodded. She loved her spooky stuff but she also didnβt want anyone to just harm a bear for this situation either. The onesie was more than fine.
β recruiting could be fun. Just ask the people we know have seen the film and go from there β
Kali smiled and nodded her head at the possibilities β ooooh yes I would love that. I have a half finished costume but I think we can use it as is too β @connorsclark
"Hold up, did you think I was actually suggesting that we put a guy in an actual bear-skin suit?" she questions with a baffled laugh and shake of her head.
"I'm a go big or go home kind of girl, but I definitely wasn't suggesting animal cruelty."
She didn't, however, feel the same about whatever hypoethetical man ended up in the suit.
"I was more thinking it could be a drinking game, you know? Do a shot, do some spins, last person standing wins."
