I wish there were different words for the different types of forgetting because when I say I forgot something, I donât mean âI forgot we had plans on Friday.â I almost always mean âI forgot today was Friday.â I know my friendâs birthday is on March 20th, but I wonât wish her happy birthday on time because I wonât know itâs March 20th on March 20th. My forgetfulness has nothing to do with not caring about/remembering events and everything to do with my inability to keep up with the passage of time.
My most common one is being 100% certain I did the thing already because the memory of doing it and the memory of intending to do it are the same mental images.

Iâve ranted about this before, but if I hear one more person tell me as a disabled, chronically ill person that I âneed reset my vagus nerveâ and they suggest a magnesium bath soak and what is essentially chamomile tea mixed with a laxative to fix it, I refuse to be held responsible for my actions.
âYour vagus nerve has stopped working,â worstie, thatâs called death.
I was talking about the intensive physical therapy I do to help with my dysautonomia, which is listed in my medical file as autonomic failure, meaning my autonomic nervous system does not function correctly and many parts of my body that should be automatically regulated are not.
And I got hit with, âoh, I take a bath magnesium when that happens to meââ
And I got so irritated my heart hit 160bpm and I almost syncoped. So yâknow, a dysregulated nervous system response lol
Iâm gonna be blunt: you bring little worth to a friendship if youâre apathetic toward the good in your friendsâ lives. If you shrug when they come to you with little things that theyâre happy about, they will eventually stop coming to you with anything and youâll wonder why that relationship feels stale. Practice genuine excitement with the people in your life. If you see a friend try to downplay how excited they are about something just be like âyoooo! This is a cool thing! Youâre a lovely person and you deserve lovely things! I love you!âÂ
I think itâs easy to be someone people complain to, but itâs just as if not more important to be someone they know theyâre allowed to be excited and proud and happy around.

it's not that I don't think "do it scared" can ever be a positive phrase, like if it's something like. "Oh, I'm scared to go to this party" but the "scared" is. nervous about the uncertainty of something, like not knowing people and things like that. That can be good.
Like, you don't have to wait for the ideal time to start doing things that could make your life better
but "ignore the fear and just do it anyway" is such an unstoppable and inescapable message, but on a basic level it is not true that fear automatically goes away when you expose yourself to the feared thing. Fear goes away when you expose yourself to the feared thing by your own choice and free will (not forced, coerced, or out of resignation because it seems like the only option), and when the experience feels safe enough that it can be a positive or at least neutral experience and help heal the fear.
people are very attracted to the idea that others have problems because they are not strong enough or too weak-willed or sensitive. Many people seem to like to believe that everyone's problems come from unwillingness to "do the hard thing."
As someone who viciously hated herself from very early childhood for being not strong enough, too weak-willed, and too sensitive, I have found that the method of doing things in spite of their "hardness" through sheer stubbornness and pain tolerance only created minimal progress.
"Pushing through" is useful in some circumstances, but using it as a primary tool for facing challenges results in expending enormous energy and difficulty for very slow results.
Examining why the thing is hard, and coming up with ways to make it easier, will take you six steps forward for every single step you take by "pushing through" without self-understanding.
"retiring for the evening" is a very useful concept lol we should be free to say "i'm not gonna be chatting anymore tonight" without then having to pretend to be asleep. if we ever talk and you say goodnight don't stress it if i see you online later hahahahah
sorry to be brave on the internet but I think food labels should list every single ingredient and that there should be harsher penalties for mislabeling and deceptive labeling
addition from @turtlesandfrogs:
We have these:
Yeah, that's exactly what the complaint was about.
A lot of you on here sure donât like the idea of making any kind of sacrifice for the benefit of others huh
Some of you act like doing minor inconvenient acts of kindness is equivalent to donating a kidney as if itâs not those acts that form our communities and make the world go around.
Return your grocery cart. If youâre able-bodied offer your seat to someone who is not. Help your friend move. Drive your sister to the airport. Make sure drunk people have a safe ride or walk home. Pet-sit for your coworker. Participate in a meal train. Volunteer in your area. Thatâs what friendship and community is about.

I donât think healthy people every really get chronic illness.
I have a friend I know from when we were both 6. She is the only person living nearby and so she saw me go from walking through limping to wheelchair on a daily basis. I keep her updated on my health even tho we rarely hang out anymore. She was gonna come over yesterday and I had to cancel. She asked if I canât hang out later that day. When I said i wonât feel better later, that if I feel that bad in the morning later will only get worse she got annoyed and âjokedâ that Iâm just finding excuses. And I was surprised, she knows all about me being disabled after all? So, a bit taken aback, I told her itâs a normal thing for me.
âBut you got the diagnosis now, arenât you better?? I thought youâll get better nowâ
She was honestly surprised and it made me realize a thing. They donât get it. They donât get that getting diagnosed only equals benefits like welfare or parking spot for us, and sometimes better pain meds but that is just like pushing luck. That itâs a forever thing. That that one day we felt good a week ago was just a bright spot and doesnât mean we wonât need our aids anymore, cause chronic illness is not linear and will make a great comeback in next four hours, and the next good day is planned on when weâre 70. Cause when abled people are sick, they get better. And our illness is just an excuse for them. And when we say we will never get better they think weâre being dramatic and pessimistic. And I donât think theyâll ever get it, cause to get it you need to live it. And I want my friends to stay healthy and not go through hell.
This is definitely okay to reblog and abled people are encouraged to reblog cause maybe itâll help others understand
Hello itâs me Lexa and this post is relevant again as I just had the Legit Same Talk with someone and I exhausted my number of fucks to give
And this widespread assumption that people who are anti psych are simply too privileged to know the full reality of mental illness is so fundamentally ignorant of why people become anti psych cause it's usually not for lack of experience with the psych system
Like I get the "clearly you don't know the reality of severe mental illness" accusation thrown at me here all the time and it's like... Actually I was institutionalized as a schizophrenic for a decade ma'am. But I guess it's more convenient for your arguments to just act like people like me aren't on tumblr so that you can use us as tools to make whatever arguments you like and not consider us otherwise
listen to me, this is so so important: you've gotta get used to really giving it your 60% as a default. like don't half-ass it necessarily but try not to go over 70% or so of an ass. you'll feel better and live a happier more fulfilled life, and on the rare occasions where you do need to lock the fuck in you'll be able to pull off bullshit that the sad miserable wretches giving it their 100% can never dream of, because they're busy draining themselves dry and you have energy reserves to spare.
The problem with giving advice to angry and suffering people is that rather frequently the thing they need to know to improve their position is the last thing they want to hear and not something they have the capacity to internalize or accept
Unfortunate truths you can tell people that would help if they could hear what it means and not just what it sounds like
You were the victim, and it wasnât fair, but itâs over now. Nobody came to save you, and Iâm sorry, but itâs too late for anyone to go back and do it different.
Youâre suffering over something that cannot be resolved. Youâre allowed to feel angry, or outraged, or betrayed, but there will eventually come a time that you donât feel that so violently anymore, and youâre going to want to have something good left to go back to.
You canât make anyone love you the way you need to be loved. Thatâs how a lot of good things end. Not with a clear sign, something blocking the road that says âdo not proceedâ, just a splitting of the path thatâs still moving somewhat in the same direction.
You canât fix them. Nothing you can do will fix them. And if they fix themselves, they canât do it for you- they have to do it for themselves as well, because otherwise a day may come when theyâre alone, and as long as they live, they are their only true constant. So you can support, and you can encourage, but the hardest part is up to them. And sometimes they canât do it even with your help.
Sometimes letting go of someone feels like mourning at their funeral before theyâve died, and every time you see them after itâs like talking to a ghost that doesnât know itâs dead. Sometimes that happens. Youâll both still wake up tomorrow anyways.
I understand that youâre afraid, and that youâre afraid for good reasons. And I understand that being brave isnât as easy as just turning that fear off, and you would if you could in a heartbeat. But the thing is, as long as that fear is able to dictate your choices, it will have power over you. If you donât believe you can try to fight it, if you accept that it will always be in charge, you let the frightening thing stay present in your life. It will exist as long as you stay paralyzed. And that sounds cruel, but it isnât something anyone can fix for you.
The person you may let yourself become after experiencing the terrible thing may very well grow into a much bigger, much more terrible thing, and someday it will swallow the first terrible thing whole. And all that will be left is something far worse for someone else. And you will not be able to shrink it down by explaining where it came from, because terrible things that are dead and gone are never as terrible as terrible things that are alive right now in front of you.
No matter how much or how little I love you, I still do not have the ability to help you the way you need to be helped. I might be the helper you want, but I am not a helper you can get. If you are to be helped at all, you will need to accept that it will come from someone else.
In today's linguistics class we talked about metaphors, and we really want two of the ones we talked about to become conventionalised.
So first of all this one girl told us about a newer metaphor in Russian, "I have paws", which is something you say when you don't really want to do something, so you say you're incapable of doing it since you have paws instead of hands. Like, "hey, finish that report" "aw but I have paws :(" and I think that's adorable. It has "I'm just a girl" energy without the misogyny.
We also had the task to invent a novel metaphor and have the others guess what it means, and the teacher really liked my "she's such a capybara" = "everyone loves her". Capybara energy is like golden retriever energy except you're chill about it. You're just vibing and everyone digs that.
Anyway I think these deserve to become more common in English

A team of experts have said the condition could even be underdiagnosed.
So not only is their not evidence ADHD is over diagnosed the experts agree itâs under diagnosed
Which most of us already knew
And yet GPs are randomly cancelling people's established prescriptions based on ~vibes~.
Proof again that a GP is by definition not an expert on anything and shouldn't be treated like one.
Also proof that all the Government and media spin about 'overdiagnosis' is exactly that, spin created to justify cuts to practical and financial support.
