Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say donโt pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying โoh I shouldnโt get too many books out at onceโ but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject youโre interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesnโt matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever theyโre due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments donโt want to fund more books if theyโre not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you canโt read them all!
Queer people getting to be open and talk about their desire for sex is important in a world where queer people are prevented from being with the people they want
Asexual people getting to be open and talk about not wanting sex and never having sex is important in a world that tries constantly to sell sex to us as an inevitable activity
Disabled people fighting for the right to marry is important in a world that holds life-saving benefits hostage and prevents one from marrying
Women fighting for the right to divorce or to never marry is important in a world that pushes women into a subordinate role of "wife"
Ex-Religious people fighting for the right to leave a religion or not be forced to convert to a religion is important in a world that subjects everyone to predatory missionary work
Religious people fighting for the right to practice their religion and do so openly is important in a world that prioritized religions over one another--often Christianity but not always
And you could substitute many more things into this. Young people fight to not be infantilized by authority, but they also in some areas fight to not be adultified. Some people have to fight so hard for a variety of reasons to be able to grow out their hair. Some people have to fight so hard to be able to cut it. Some fight to be allowed to wear coverings, some fight to be allowed to wear nothing. Some fight to be left alone, some fight to get the care they need. Some fight to be able to leave, some fight to be able to stay.
None of these comparable fights are opposed to one another, because the fight isn't about the specific thing, it is all about the same thing: autonomy.
Someone's fight to wear a dress is someone's fight to wear pants is someone's fight to live alone is someone's fight to live with someone is someone's fight to be left alone by medical institutions is someone's fight to be able to medically alter their body.
It is the same fight. People who want the opposite for themselves that I want for me are my siblings. We want the exact same thing: the choice to be who we want, how we want, on our terms.
And I WANT that for everyone. I want people to be allowed to choose what I wouldn't, do what I wouldn't, because then I would be free to do what I want and need.
If you could choose to have either a tail or horns, which would you choose? What would the tail/horns look like?
ooh this is a hard one!! I think I would choose tail. Thinking about it, most horns would be hard to hide, and therefore cause stares/medical concerns. Plus, I've always wanted a tail! As for what it looks like, that's harder...
Still going with the "I'd need to hide it" thing (because we ALL know the world wouldn't be very accepting of it), I think it would have to be either long or small.
The most difficult thing about this question is how it would look... It's a bit odd to only have the tail! I think I would definitely want it long (swish swish) and flexible (so I'm not condemned to pants all summer), so I may just go with a long, ridiculously flexible tail thats my skin color (everything else would look odd by itself. You have a cat tail... and no cat ears? You have a dog tail and no ears? etc etc)

Being a vigilante would be super cool but I think I have a little too much light in my eyes. I'm a big fan of Gotham and they have a tendency to see bright young heroes over there and make their lives miserable :/ unfortunately I think I'm just too attached to my spleen
And also camp halfblood will always be my first love <3 it's what really got me into fandom spaces and how I discovered ao3 so I think I just have to pick it. The wars aren't ideal but the other joys are interesting enough to balance it out in my mind. I know I'm a child of athena (despite my years of fighting against this fact). My know-it-all tendencies are just too strong to deny
I think part of it stems from insecurity. You know how in the movies, you see the 'Hot Girls' and they know it and everyone else knows it and mentions it but then it cuts to where you see the girls starving themselves and not eating anything with a molecule of sugar or fat?
I figure that, for those people, they are deeply insecure about their looks and need outside validation. So, when others say to them "Wow, you're hot!", they just go "Yeah, I know.", but deep inside, into their insecurities, the outside validation helps them and they need to hear themselves and other people call them 'Hot'
I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard
Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.
Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.
Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.
Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.
SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.
SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.
Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.
Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.
Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.
Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.
Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.
You can have any animal for a pet. Any complications such as โkeeping the animal healthy and happyโ and โthe time and effort it would take to keep happy and healthy petโ and โkeeping yourself uneatenโ and โthe pet I want is kind of extinctโ have all been solved perfectly. You donโt have to think of that.

In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.
I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!
From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!
I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.
Edit: Yes, this also works on mobile!
The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.
(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)
If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.
The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.
insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box
add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box
delete -> self explanatory
on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic
The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.
Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it's such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.

I recently encountered a post that was like "we need to bring back ask culture. reblog if you want more asks" and I greatly enjoy scrolling through the reblogs and asking random people random questions like what their favourite piece of classical music is or which breed of dog they would most likely be and reading their responses is very fun. 10/10 would recommend doing this to others
