I hate the push that you can quit addictions by pure willpower because it perpetuates the idea that people who can't have committed a moral failing of some kind. We all may know some people who did quit an addiction cold turkey, and with no aid, you may be one of them. And that's fantastic, but it is not the norm. It is more than okay to need help to quit an addiction. Relapse is also part of the process. Many people relapse several times before they are able to quit for good. Let's have compassion.
not only that but depending on the substance quitting cold turkey can kill you
ALCOHOL. Itās a very common dependence and cold turkey CAN KILL YOU. A lot of people donāt know this. Doctors can literally prescribe beer in the ER to save a life.
Be careful out there.
We owe it all to them.
To repeat the message louder: musicians, journalists, radio stations, listeners, record companies, streaming sites, discos; anyone remotely involved with popular music, you probably owe a big chunk of it to black musicians.

Mamma Mia! (2008) dir. Phyllida Lloyd
Stopping point if you find yourself on your phone doomscrolling, procrastinating, or āstuckā
You can move to scroll in another space (if you havenāt gotten out of bed yet, move to the couch; if you havenāt left the house yet, you can sit outside)
You can make your current space more pleasant to scroll in (if itās not possible to move spaces, open a window or light a candle in your space)
You can scroll while taking care of your body (change into clean clothes, scroll while brushing your teeth or washing your face, scroll while drinking water or having a snack)
You can stay on social media but avoid depressing or mindless content (try searching for fun facts, hobbies youāre interested in, or good news)
Hard mode: try just making the switch on your phone from short-form to long-form content (from dozens of short posts to an article, a fanfic, or an ebook; from TikToks/Reels/Shorts to a interesting or fun YouTube video, podcast, audiobook, or film) ā this can be the first step in transitioning out of being āstuck,ā because you can, for example, go on a walk while listening to an audiobook, fold clothes while watching a video, etc.
Expert mode: Set a timer for one minute and put down your phone. Do anything else. (Take deep breaths, go get a drink, pick up a book or craft.) If you can do this, aspire to two or five minutes and keep increasing your time away from scrolling. (Use your phone to play music, a podcast, or an audiobook if this prevents you from picking it up again)
Good luck! I hope you were able to make your scrolling a touch more cheerful today!
People who work within a system: okay so studies show that the normal system works 90% of the time, but because itās very bad when it doesnāt work, weāve set up a process to manage those outliers. We need six well-trained workers to run the system 100% of the time without any serious incidents.
CEOs and politicians, every time: Well i just saw it go right twice in a row which means the normal system which you say works 90% of the time actually works 100% of the time. Weāre cutting the team down to one person pulling 18 hour shifts without breaks

in the summer i watch a show that's shot in a studio city parking lot. it airs 3 times a week but they also put live feeds of it on the internet.
anyway, today they put a 53yo realtor and grandmother from utah in a detective-egg costume. and this (among other things) made salina estitties (of drag race all stars) cry.
that's big brother, baby

the main problem i have with america is that nothings old as hell there. i cant be so far away from a castle it damages my aura
man people really just say stuff on here huh
Noooo haha don't spread racist ideals and colonizer propaganda by idolizing white european aesthetics above all else and denying the life and accomplishments of native peoples on their own lands
People have been living in the downtown area of Tucson, Arizona for at least 4,500 years. The greater Santa Cruz river valley has been occupied by humans for 12,000 years.
You see this?
That's not a river. That's the South Canal in Mesa, Arizona (Phoenix metro area).
This is a view of the East and South canals. At least half of all the Phoenix metro canals were originally built by the Hohokam (from roughly 200-1400 CE), and are still in use (restored) today.
Phoenix, Arizona actually has more miles (kilometers) of Canals total than both Venice and Amsterdam. No, really. Phoenix has about 180 miles of canals, many of which are built on ancient canal foundations.
below is an aerial view photo taken in the late 1930's of one branch of Phoenix's canal systems:
Also have the "Montezuma Castle," if you need a castle:
I don't need to look at some 12th century European castle to see age.
Donāt forget the continuously inhabited pueblos!!
The Taos Pueblo, Orayvi, and Sky City (Acoma) were all founded sometime before 1150AD and have been continuously inhabited since then.
Thereās the Medicine Wheel in Wyoming - called AnnĆ”shisee by the ApsĆ”alooke, who also say that it was there before they arrived. We donāt know how old it is. Oral history from several different indigenous tribes say it was built by ancient ancestors who lived without iron.
And then thereās the Serpent Mound in Ohio, which, by the way, is the largest serpent effigy in the world.
Radiocarbon dates it back to at least 300 BCE. (2300 years ago), so, you know ā the time of Ptolemy and the Punic Wars, and was later repaired by indigenous people about 900 years ago.
This just scratches the surface. So, yeah, we have a lot of old as shit stuff here built by indigenous people. Donāt even get me started on South America.
Three artworks on the same theme, by Hiroo Isono, likely from the 70s or early 80s.
