Crashing and Burning.

This is the first, and so far (ch. 260) only, story Kim Soleum contributed to as a DER author and his addition is just so quintessentially Kim Soleum. It’s so fundamentally kind, with an answer one could only ever find through being unfailingly compassionate at every step-

To even start one has to choose to help one of the entities hunting you, for no other reason than they appear to need help and you can. Then you have to learn how to speak with them, attempt to reach out and understand their situation (this is skipped in gsgw bcs Kim Soleum already knows everything, but this would not be true for anyone else) and care enough about it to want to end their torture.

Yes it might be out of curiosity for another way to solve the darkness, but considering the already well known escape method- I don’t think just anyone would bother with that. Especially not with the true ending’s high entry bar

Then there’s the resolution he wrote, one where through risking life and limb, you get to look these suffering, trapped children in the face and tell them “You’re free, you’ve graduated. It’s over now, you can go home” an answer where you not only release trapped civilians, but save even the entities themselves. The same type of answer we’ve seen Kim Soleum find every time he can in universe, but these are solutions he had to come up with through hints from the DER, what he can actually find in the darkness, and his own creative planning skills-

This is the only time none of that is necessary, because he already wrote the kindest ending
