Besides being My Childhood Cringe and the reason i made my first tumblr account in 2011, code geass is still one of the craziest, most genre confused pieces of media i’ve ever seen.

It's about the horrors of colonialism and war and genocide. It's a high school drama. It's a sexy mecha show. there’s titties everywhere the 2006 fan service is absolutely tasteless and egregious. But don't get distracted, this is a show about rebels fighting to overthrow an evil genocidal empire except for when it's about the world’s largest pizza, yes, the world's largest pizza. #code geass is like if someone was like 'i need to write a very serious story and i want it to get mainstream attention'#'but i have to do Every Single Anime Bullshit so i can cover all my bases. so the story gets attention of course'#the unserious moments in this show literally feel like #if the creator was Painfully Aware that the story they wanted to tell wouldn't gain traction unless they included those bits #a begrudging adherance to the cultural norms in order to adequately convey the story they wanted to tell #like a coddling almost. 'yeah you can watch another scene of the immortal witch eating pizza #IF! you're a good puppy and you watch my breakdown about #the horrors of colonialism and the importance of fighting back against powers you know you cannot beat #anyway. i should rewatch it at some point. been a really long time
