chakotay is a character who was sooo ahead of his time, conceptually speaking. like an indigenous man who left starfleet to become a freedom fighter against the federation is just so, so good. unfortunately the writers absolutely did not know what they had so instead they just did racism about it but imagine what could have been!!

the idea of a far beyond the stars-style episode of voyager where the crew are a team of archeologists on ~21st century earth and chakotay is trying to stop a major resource extraction project from happening on his people’s land lives in my brain rent free. genuinely could’ve been revolutionary
