If you watch the whole show and sit there and tell me Levi is an asshole? You clearly didn't pay attention.

Throughout the whole show, the entirety of Levi's character is established as the protector. Levi is not a selfish person, he is a selfless person. He fights for humanity; not for himself. His entire character arc with zeke is rooted in his promise to Erwin.

He cares so deeply and that is what makes him the strongest. He wouldn't be the strongest if he didn't have the rage and the pain and the determination that comes with love.

Levi is not a stone cold brooding morally grey character. He is a man that cares about people in ways that people never cared for him.

Not to mention, he has a sense of humor! He is a sassy man.

He has lived a tragic life, but he lived. He lived longer than all of him comrades. Developed relationships with them just to be unable to save them. Levi is not a mean man, he is a man who has been through more than people could imagine.

And I need him.
