Thinking of Grace and Rocky getting so bored on the way to Erid and also them just being so sad they they can’t speak each others language, no matter how much they understand it’s just not physically possible. But maybe just maybe there’s some word in their respective languages that they can sort of say (not very well) but enough that someone would understand it. And they spend days going through everything thats sort of similar to the vocal range of the other.

POV Adrian when they finally get Erid. Your mate is back with this freaky alien that speaks in such a condensed range of tones and you understand nothing it says but it seems happy to be here and happy to meet you. And then in the middle of a ramble of incompressible sounds it says, in the strangest accent, “thermometer” and then goes back to utter nonsense.

I just realized that it's not quite true that Earth doesn't know what happened to Grace after he went back for Rocky.

I mean, NASA keeps tracks of what's happening on the other planets. They know which planets are infected with the astrophage.

So they probably know that Erid is NOT infected with it anymore, which means they can come to the conclusion that Grace must have suceeded in finding Rocky.

And now there's a wikipedia page for Rocky and Grace respectively that specifically describe them as the saviours of two planets.

it means so much to me that rocky's lead puppeteer james ortiz got to voice him and got like. full billing right next to ryan gosling in the opening credits. and he's gotten to do interviews and red carpet appearances and talk about puppetry and it's all being taken so seriously just like he's any other type of actor. gonna make me cry fr. like they could have gotten some famous person to be rocky's voice to try and pull more star power but. they went with the guy who acted him. and like of course they did. like there he is. how could they do anything else. he's right there and he's perfect

kay but imagine Grace helping some Eridians do experiments on him (safe and ethical ones that are both Grace and Rocky approved) and one of them involves a sleep study (in possibly the most literal sense of the term)

even though he's an alien they're kind of just expecting his brain to shut off in his sleep like theirs does so imagine their shock when during the study he just... wakes up. either to ask them if they can do their work quieter or to use the bathroom. they didn't know he could do that or that something like that was even an option.

wdym ur brain just keeps going during sleep? is it damaged? does that hurt it??

it gets even weirder when they learn about dreams and worse when they find out that not even humans understand them. it's your brain how do you not know????
