he  had  feigned  a  liking  to  near  all  of  their  cooking  .  .  .  once  or  twice  -          how  much  longer  would  he  have  to  𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞  this  for  ?  and  of  all  of  the  team   why  beast  boy  ?!   how  c o u l d  he  do  this  !?  he  knew  what  it  was  like  the  last  time  star-fire  made  them  breakfast  .  .  .  the  both  of  them  near  𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝  the  bathroom .  gaze  set  upon  the  mush  before  him ,  then  straight  up  at  his  tiny  green  f r i e n d .        ❛   beast  boy  .  .  .  i  thought  we  had  all  agreed  that  we’d  just  get  take  out  from  now  on  .  .  .  y’know  after  the  last  .  .  .  𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭-    WHICH  WAS  NO  ONE’S  FAULT .   ❜

amid  the  chaos  and  destruction  that  continued ,  it  had  still  been  an  easy  feat  to  have  located  her  among  the  crowd  of  𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬  -       particularly  with  that  deeply  unhappy  look  spread  across  her  face .  she  was  one  of  few  who  could  carry  it  well .  before  he  had  even  given  it  a  second  thought  he  was  crossing  the  path ,  a  smirk  e t c h e d  into  his  features ,  right  before  he  positioned  himself  just  in  front  of  her .        ❛   it  is  so  𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠  to  see  you  gettin’  amongst  it  and  e n j o y i n g  yourself  for  once  .  .  .   ❜        he  trailed  off ,  a  hand  raising  to  his  chin ,  tapping  it  absentmindedly .        ❛   wait  a  minute ,  you’re  not  !   ❜

❛   AND  DO  NOT  GET  ME  STARTED  O-        ❜        the  sudden  r e a l i s a t i o n ,  even  if  only  brought  to  him  by  the  uninterested  little  huff  emitted ,  was  just  enough  to  push  him  right  over  the  very  edge  of  𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 .  his  almighty  hammer  brought  to  his  own  lap ,  a  subtle  lean  toward  his  𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧  before  a  glide  of  the  tongue  over  seething  lips .        ❛   i’m  sorry ,  dear  brother ,  am  i  boring  you  with  my  anger  and  need  for  v a l i d a t i o n  ?  is  there  somewhere  else  you  need  be  ?   ❜

tongue  in  cheek ,  his  𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞   too  long ,  but  he  truly  had  no  words .  now ,  as  they  stood  not  three  feet  from  one  another ,  her  chocolate  hues  waiting  for  him ,  patient  or  impatient   ;   he  wasn’t  quite  sure ,  but  words  simply  did  not  flow  and  this  was  not  something  you  could  𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞  or  fumble  your  way  through  -       not  at  all .        ❛   i-   i  don’t  know  w h a t  to  say  right  now ,  v .   ❜        arms  crossed  over  his  chest  lightly ,  he  shrugged .        ❛  i’m  just  .  .  .  i  don’t  know  what  to  do  here .   ❜

his  lips  curl  into  an   ;   what  feels  like ,  awkward  smirk .  his  attempt  at  f e i g n i n g  the  cold-heartedness  at  her  and  𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 .  something  he  probably  would  have  once  joked  about  when  it  came  to  her  .  .  .  raven .  the  familiar ,  and  sickening ,  feeling  started  up  again  surging  through  him  and  threatening  to  cause  his  entire  facade  to  fall  in  his  𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐡  and  pain  -      he  needed  to  end  this ,  get  her  away  from  him ,  and  he  needed  to  make  sure  it  was  for  good .

fists  balled  at  his  sides ,  he  takes  a  step  toward  her ,  but  at  the  same  time  keeping  a  safe  distance  from  her .        ❛   do  you  h e a r  yourself  ?  you .  the  queen  of  .  .  .  𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬  preaching  to  me  about  friends  and  .  .  .  binding  together  ?   ❜        a  forced  scoff  on  the  outside   ;   he’s  fighting  back  bile  on  the  in .

the  hum  of  his  s a b r e  was  but  a  distant  thrum  as  he  stared  directly  into  the  eyes  of  this  .  .  .  girl .  he  had  struggled  with  not  knowing  just  exactly  who  she  was ,  what  she  was ,  and  why  he  cared .  she  and  her  𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞  fiends  had  definitely  been  a  thorn  in  his  side  though  and  usually  it  would  have  been  all  too  easy  to  strike  them  down  and  move  onto  the  next  𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐬𝐭  -       but  this  one  he  could  not  slay  so  e a s i l y .   why !?   on  one  hand  he  wanted  to  end  her  right  here ,  and  on  the  other ,  he  wanted  her  to  go  with  him  !  and  he  could  feel  that  a  part  of  her  wanted  to  do  the  same .

❛   this  will  only  end  bad  for  all  of  you  .  .  .  you  know  this .   ❜

𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠  .  .  .  he  was  fidgeting .  when  had  he  ever  fidgeted  ?  well ,  not  since  he’d  been  home ,  with  his  parents ,  his  s i b l i n g s  .  .  .  home .  a  frustrated  huff  escaped  him  as  he  thrust  himself  back  in  his  seat ,  fists  in  tight  balls  beneath  the  wooden  table  before  them .  he  refused  to  look  at  her .  refused  to  look  into  the  𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐟𝐮𝐥  eyes  of  his  little  sister .  moments  passed  in  their  silence  -       he  knew  he  had  to  say  something ,  but  what  c o u l d  he  say  ?  how  could  she  possibly  understand  ?        ❛   look  .  .  .  cecy .   ❜        a  deep  breath  taken ,  finally  he  looked  up  at  her ,  his  own  features  𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝  and  hardened .        ❛   you  wouldn’t  understand  !  not  even  if  i  told  you  .  .  .  told  you  everything .   ❜

❛   you’re  great  with  a  sword ,  i’ll  give  you  that .   ❜        words  slide  off  his  tongue  𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐥𝐲  ,  wiping  the  sweat  from  his  brow  as  lips  curve  into  a  playful  and  eager  smirk  before  he  lifts  his  own  sword  into  the  air  and  brings  it  down  hard  and  swift   -       refusing  to  hold  back  with  sarah ,  knowing  full  well  that  she  can  handle  𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫  he  dishes  out ,  and  then  some .        ❛   but  let’s  be  h o n e s t  here  .  .  .  i’m  by  far ,  and  i  mean  far ,  the  best  swords-person  here .  ❜        he  chuckled ,  sword  swinging  around  his  shoulder  as  he  strode  around  her ,  a  certain  𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬s  to  his  stride .  golden  hues  locked  onto  her  once  more  before  he  poised ,  preparing  for  her  onslaught .        ❛   and  there  is  no  s h a m e  in  admitting  that,  sarah .   ❜

footsteps  trudged  along  the  stone  floor ,  the  traces  of  his  presence  echoed  around  him  -       𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 ,  now  he  was  surrounded  by  more  people  than  he  had  ever  been  and  why  ?  not  even  he  could  answer  that  question  but  he  couldn’t  i g n o r e  the  call  .  .  .  nor  the  coin .  so  a  foreign  land  it  was ,  full  of  magic  ,  darkness  and  children .  turning  the  corner ,  he  stopped  short  of  a  small  person  before  him ,  a  grunt  escaping ,  followed  by  an  attempted  mumble  of  words  he’d  meant  as  a  𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 .

dark  hues  fell  upon  the  child  in  front  of  him   ;   her  red  hair  striking  as  it  bobbed  around  her  dark  cloak .  he  shifted  on  his  feet  some ,  arms  crossing  over  his  chest .        ❛   thought  there  was  to  be  some  sort  of  𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐰  on  at  the  minute  .  .  .  or  does  that  not  apply  to  you  ,  g i r l  ?   ❜
