And since I see a lot mistakes in fics and such:

“He ran past,” past serves as a preposition, like “by” or “across,” not as a verb like “walk” or “race.” Saying “he ran passed” is like saying “he ran raced.” Saying “he ran past” is like saying “he ran by.”

and the one that is a big issue in the SPN fandom:
