tumblr users’ obsession with self-reporting (especially as a weird form of penance) needs to be studied
you don’t need to tell the world you still like Harry Potter because it’s your comfort movie or because your dad read it to you when you were little or something like that in response to a post about the harm continued monetary support of Harry Potter causes. you don’t need to tell tumblr all the myriad of reasons you don’t like rap under a post about how rap is often misrepresented as ultra-violent or overtly sexual and misogynistic because of racism. No one on tumblr has to know anything about you. no one has to know you still read your old Harry Potter books or that the only rap artist you like is Eminem. No one is going to say “oh of course you’re the One True Good Person with a Good Reason!” when you say that rap is difficult to listen to because of your auditory processing disorder or you’re only a part of the Marauders fandom. Just keep your shit to yourself and don’t embarrass yourself under other peoples’ posts.
funniest possible reply and its not even on purpose

everyone say thank you to our second patron saint
"yeah i know it's bad for the environment but like so many things are so i just use it anyway" COOL I'M GONNA BITE THROUGH THIS TABLE
“never kill yourself” is such a funny phrase to me that i think it’s accidently started working. its like an affrimation. say ‘never kill yourself’ enough times as a joke and maybe you won’t try to kill yourself over minor inconviences anymore

not that my input really matters, but i don’t know much of lgbt history other than bits and pieces of stonewall, a little bit of the aids crisis, and the legalization of gay marriage; i’m an actual child and nobody here (kentucky) educates anyone/gets educated on it
how about instead of shaming people—especially young people—for not knowing our history, we provide them with credible resources?
here’s a long list of LGBT+ historical events worth googling and learning about. i’m not sure if all the dates and details are spot on, but, again, this is really just a guide for what to research on your own. to warn you, a lot of this history is ugly, including things like the conflation of pedophilia and LGBT+ people, genital mutilation, homophobia, transphobia, nazis, and wide scale persecution.
Free Resources:
an interactive timeline of LGBT+ world history
The 1950s and the Roots of LGBT Politics (American-centric)
Before Stonewall: The Making of a Gay and Lesbian Community (warning: this documentary was made in the 80s and is dated in a lot of respects as a result; it also features quotes from Allen Ginsberg, who we now know was a pedophile, but it’s still very informative in terms of history)
a brief history of the bisexual movement from the 1960s-early 2000s (American-centric)
Bisexual.org has a TON of resources on bi (and often pan) history, historical figures, research, and media
“Here’s A History Of Bisexuality, From Ancient Egypt To Stonewall”
a brief timeline of trans history, beginning in the 1890s (European and American-centric)
“Gender Variance Around the World Over Time”
Some Purchasable Resources:
(most of these can be bought used online for pretty cheap and some can be found in libraries)
Before Stonewall: Activists for Gay and Lesbian Rights in Historical Context by Vern L Bullough (it’s a bit dated, but still informative)
A Little Gay History: Desire and Diversity Across the World by R. Parkinson
Sapphistries: A Global History of Love between Women (Intersections) by Leila J. Rupp
Gay Voices of the Harlem Renaissance (Blacks in the Diaspora) by A.B. Christa Schwarz
The Lavender Scare: The Cold War Persecution of Gays and Lesbians in the Federal Government by David K. Johnson
Queer Brown Voices: Personal Narratives of Latina/o LGBT Activism edited by Uriel Quesada, Letitia Gomez, and Salvador Vidal Ortiz
Transgender History: The Roots of Today’s Revolution by Susan Stryker
Asegi Stories: Cherokee Queer and Two-Spirit Memory by Qwo-Li Driskill
it's important to me that people know the original "he would not fucking say that" was in response to a tiktok where someone said eric cartman would thank you for asking for his pronouns. Like it just doesn't hit the same without context.
everytime someone uses "he would not fucking say that" for something he would absolutely fucking say given slightly different circumstances or has already fucking said i immediately become indignant cause you can't waste a joke like this on mild characterisation nitpicks. sorry. it has to be on par with Any Pronouns Cartman.
Honestly? I love this, this is great. This is my new favorite line to use when interacting with strangers online.

Petition to the Government of Canada to grant asylum to transgender and non-binary people from any country that has laws hostile to them, including countries historically considered “safe” such as the UK and the USA.
You must be Canadian to sign, but please share

actually important addition, remember to check your email to confirm you signed it. If you hit sign and close the tab you did not actually sign the petition.
things i have seen/experienced working in a toy store:
• a customer asking me if boys like coloring
• a customer telling her daughter she can’t give out ice cream stickers for party favors because there will be boys there
• an older couple laughing about how there’s a pink toy sword because a boy would never play with a pink toy sword (because i guess boys can’t like pink and girls don’t play with toy swords. also it wasn’t even pink it was red lol)
• a customer refusing to buy a snail robot kit for his nephew because it was “too cute for a boy”
• a customer sharply reminding me she was buying a gift for a boy when i suggested play food
• a customer telling her daughter she needed to pick a different birthday card for her friend because the one she chose had a pink envelope (her friend was a boy)
• a customer asking what a boy would like for valentine’s day instead of the stuffed dogs she was getting for the girls
• a customer getting upset when my coworker used blue ribbon on a gift bag because the present was for a girl
• a customer saying a toy guitar was “too girly” for her grandson, based only on the fact that the box had a picture of a girl playing with it (the guitar was red with yellow music notes)
but yeah, trans people have some real weird ideas about gender
