don’t know what to say lately when people ask me what kind of music I like. yeah I’ve really been getting into metatextual instrumental explorations of the aesthetics associated with 90’s educational interactive computer games. I really like the ironic MIDI approximations of soundscapes associated with various biomes and loading screens. I find it all both nostalgic and inspiring

I rarely bring this up because it feels like fairly silly and low-stakes compared to all the other effects of american imperialism, but one of the funniest things when Americans deny that living in the imperial core and the center of global cultural hegemony confers them any sort of privilege over people from the imperial periphery is that like. Hyper-individualist cultures go, “Your emotions are your personal responsibility. Don’t burden others. Regulate privately. Maintain functionality. If you’re upset, process it offstage so the machine keeps moving.” Meanwhile certain collectivist or harmony-focused frameworks go, “Your emotions disrupt group cohesion. Don’t create discomfort. Don’t impose disharmony. Transcend or contain your reactions for the sake of the whole.”
