When white began the colony on homeworld she started by having several engineer gems build a satellite that could travel at light speed, she sent this satellite staffed with two future vision Sapphires and several Nephrites, they were sent to the furthest reaches of the universe, toward the epicenter of The Big Bang. From there images are uploaded directly to Mermaid Sapphire of the entire universe from the past to present. Before the rebellion, when Pink Diamond was first beginning the colony, before any gems we're made, Mermaid came to earth to inform the diamonds of events that previously took place on earth and whether or not the colony would be viable for Pknk. Because the event of Pink Diamond joining a rebellion and faking her own shattering was so unlikely given information known about gems, Mermaid Sapphire never paid much attention to that pool of probability. When Pink became Rose she poofed Mermaid and bubbled her away so that she couldn't report to white blue or yellow. Steven finds her much later, after era 3 begins, on another planet while visiting Lars and the off colors from homeworld.
