It’s lovingly made. I feel the mangaka Ryoko Kui put a lot of thought and effort into the characters and details. MUST WATCH! 🤩

I'm gonna be honest, Dungeon Meshi was the first Anime I remember watching to completion (at least of season 1).

It's scheduled for October of next year. I simply can't wait!

I was first inspired to watch this show after watching Curious Archive's video "The Dragon Paradox"

My favorite dishes from season 1 were the Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom Hotpot, Mandrake and Bat Meat Kakiage, Sky Fish and Chips, and the entire Red Dragon Meal

I highly recommend checking out Isekai Kitchen's and Underdark Cellar's videos on YouTube, they've made multiple Dungeon Meshi dishes in real life as well as other fantasy/anime foods irl.

I Absolutely Adore the elements of Speculative Biology in this series. Living Armor is portrayed as a colony of mollusks who live inside armor that link up their bodies and move by contracting themselves like muscles, The Red Dragon uses indigestible parts of their meals as fuel for their fire and have sexual dimorphism since male dragons have a small protrusion underneath their chin, while female dragons do not, and i can go on and on.

My favorite characters are Laios, Kabru, Falin, Izutsumi, and Senshi.

I plan on re-watching it soon, likely when it's closer to when Seson 2 comes out 😄

The Ryoko Kui/Delicious in Dungeon exhibition in LA was cool!

I will admit the gallery was stiflingly hot and that caused us to speed through this faster than I'd usually like to. Wish I had more photos. But overall it was a thoughtfully curated exhibit! I really enjoyed seeing a lot of her early work I hadn't seen before on display (above). They also included a lot of thumbnail sketches next to her illustrations which is something I don't see often and makes it a little more fun to engage with digital artwork that has been printed out. Maybe this is going to sound anti-digital artist (I hope not) but it's infinitely more fun to look at traditional work in person...the thought occurred to me that this exhibit could theoretically be happening in multiple places at once, and it instantly made it feel less special. But small touches like the thumbnails + her commentary on why one sketch was chosen went a long way.

Then of course there was the Delicious in Dungeon section which had the food replicas I'd seen people posting online. Always fills my heart with joy to see Japanese fake food and these were just as weird and wonderful as I'd hoped. Such a shame there was no themed cafe to accompany the exhibit.
