Although I do not agree with the “you know this one” image, in reference to a woman not wearing the hijab, or showing off her hair in public, the first picture depicting a hijab-wearing muslim woman in comparison to an unexposed, wrapped lollipop sort of displays the societal views of the oppression of women in Islam. In the West, society portrays Muslim women as “slaves” to their men, or “submissive” and being victims of violent acts, however we learned in the Islam Feminism lecture that history pleads a different case, and as a Muslim myself, women in my culture are not deemed as superior or inferior to men in any way. Although, often times, men are deemed as the breadwinners over women within the Muslim culture as well.
