Ooh, interesting! Remedy Entertainment (Finnish devs of Max Payne, Alan Wake and Control, among others) have announced a partnership with Annapurna Pictures (film studio behind Zero Dark Thirty, Stray and Nimona, to name a few).
The deal is sort of a trade: Annapurna will finance 50% of the development cost of the upcoming Control 2, and in turn Remedy's giving them the options to adapt the Alan Wake and Control games for television or film -- whether or not these will be straight adaptations or cinematic entries into the shared Remedyverse (like the Bright Falls webseries) isn't clear yet. Both parties will receive profits from the resulting works, with Remedy receiving a higher share from Control 2 and Annapurna receiving a higher share from the adaptations.
Honestly, this is a pretty good deal for both groups; Annapurna's been pretty open about wanting to tell weird stories for artistic merit, and if anybody could faithfully adapt Remedy games for screen, it's them (though I don't know if Alan Wake would really work without the interactive elements -- certainly not a straight adaptation). They're also the studio most likely to at least consider keeping the same actors from the games in the roles -- while Alan himself might be difficult to keep (owing to the fact that his body and voice are two separate actors; it's doable but would take tremendous effort to make that work for long-term onscreen without breaking immersion), I think the cast of Control is a lot more likely to be able to star in an adaptation or cross-media entry. I'm apprehensive towards an adaptation, but this is probably the best way for one to happen, so I'm curious how it goes!
