I canât believe I have to say this as well but the people asking me âwell what should I do insteadâ
guys. The buttons arenât made for more pressure outside of a push with hands/fingers. If you use your cane you canât FEEL how hard youâre pressing anyway. Thatâs why the auto door buttons get stuckâ if someone kicks it, taps it too hard with their foot or something, then itâs broken and someone else (who cannot walk, use their limbs in a fully functional way, or do what you do as an alternative*) is fucked. They have no choice but to not go in/leave, or wait for help. They canât get in, they canât use the service if itâs broken by someone misusing the button. Is that clear enough?
Use your elbow if you donât wanna touch the buttons. I use my knuckle, elbow, wrist or the side of my hand. But I still have to touch my aid after. And I donât want the nasty floor germs of literal fecal matterâ actual shit particles and germsâ and god knows what else, spread more if it doesnât have to. Itâs so so easy to just not do it, and if you are a cane user who is perfectly capable of doing so, there should be no issue for this.
Another thing. The fucking toilets too! Quit using your feet to flush! Just get some toilet paper and hold it to flush it for the love of god please stop tap dancing on commonly touched surfaces. Itâs so gross!!! Why are you still spreading so many germs without care in 2026!!!!
Stop it with the âwhat ifâsâ. Sometimes there is no nuance. Sometimes itâs just someone doing something they havenât yet learned to not do, and thatâs one thing, but itâs also very irritating to see how me and others like myself are not thought of, even within this own community. Itâs annoying. Iâm annoyed. Itâs that simple. No one is evil or should be punished, and I talk about these things so much bc so many people just donât consider it!
* (in this exampleâ the person in the video took the stairs down instead of the broken elevator. OP said âI canât help but to think of people who canât take the stairs when an elevator is out of serviceâ. Taking the stairs is the alternative in this situation)
