Fat acceptance means accepting unhealthy fat people. I donât care if it doesnât support your respectability politics. Unhealthy fat people (including those whoâs illness is related to their weight) deserve respect.

i know thereâs a lot going on but ICE are now one step closer to literally creating gas chambers. they are spraying a chemical called HDQ neutral roughly 100 times a day, every 15 minutes at the adelanto detention center (one of the biggest in the country). people are getting rashes, headaches, their insides are bleeding, etc. the guards are wearing gloves and masks but the detainees have NOTHING. and hereâs a quick reminder - america inspired the nazis to create gas chambers when they gassed latino people during the 1917 bath riots.Â
hereâs a petition to sign. itâs close to itâs goal. if thereâs anything else we can do to help iâll update this post.
I donât have the words to properly explain how horrifying this is. In April, the advocacy group Freedom For Immigrants published a report about unsanitary conditions at the detention center, where the immigrants were made to clean the facilities with only water, or shampoo. According to their report, there were sick detainees there - possibly with COVID-19, but itâs unclear since they werenât being tested - and the conditions could easily lead to a situation in which the virus exploded among those there.
The guards are spraying this disinfectant in retaliation for the report. To be clear - HDQ is an industrial-strength disinfectant, which according to the manufacturer is âharmful if inhaledâ and âcauses severe skin burns and serious eye damage.â The guards are spraying it on everything every 15-30 minutes, according to sources, and immigrants in the center have already experienced severe symptoms including blisters, rashes, bleeding, fainting, breathing difficulties, headaches, stomach pain, and nausea.
And letâs be real - ICE doesnât give a shit, either about protecting these people or about preventing a COVID outbreak. ICE, according to their own reports, currently has 25,911 people in custody, of which only 2,670 have been tested. 1,392 of those were positive. In simple terms - less than 10% of detainees have been tested. Of those, more than half are positive. We cannot estimate how many sick people ICE is currently holding, or how many more will get sick without any kind of prevention or care.
ICE is killing people through neglect, and when they dared complain - they started gassing them.
Unfortunately, with Trump in the white house, petitions arenât doing much. What we can do, however, is donate to the advocacy group that is bringing these things to light, allowing them to continue their work and hopefully free more immigrants. Their donation page is here. Please spread this.
My fellow disabled people whose smiles and facial expressions are affected by their disabilities, whose expressions donât quite look ânormalâ to abled people:
Your face and your smile are not less powerful, incredible or lovely just because they donât match those of abled peoples.
Your emotions are not less real just because abled people canât read your expressions how theyâre used to reading everyone elseâs.
Youâre still worthy of love and respect, and your face adds happiness to fellow disabled peopleâs worlds when we see each other.
You are not broken or ugly simply because society does not understand you, nor because your face does not match societyâs ideals or expectations.
You are lovely & there is nothing wrong with you.
we need to be taught disability history in school because it is 2019, i am 20 years old, and i am only now learning that the National Association of the Deaf had to take Netflix to court in 2012 in order for closed captioning to be required on streaming sites (source). any amount of accessibility in our lives has been fought for, and those stories need to be told.
your first and most pressing concern should be for the safety of black people. it should be for justice. it should be in making this not just a moment but a reshaping of cultural bias.
this is not a fun little game for you to trot around flipping off cops and making light of a situation you were never affected by. it is not your chance to have a little bit of adventure in the middle of a quarantine. i am speaking as an author and i am telling you to stop fucking making this about katniss or harry potter or whatever - you can be shaped by media, sure, but this is not and has never been about you roleplaying your favorite action heroes. this is not another âdisaster of 2020âł. this is not a quirky instagram post, itâs not a chance for you to meet up with your friends, itâs not a tactic to get your tiktok trending.
this is about racial injustice. this is about the entire system that is built on that injustice and grows fat on that injustice. donât get distracted. the police force is not the only systemically racist organization.
black lives matter. and we do not stop until every organization recognizes that and actually acts on it.

Disabled ârepresentationâ drinking game,
Take a shot(of whatever youâre abled to drink w your meds) whenever
The disabled character is extremely stereotypical when it comes to presenting symptoms of their illness
Theyâre not a main character, but are the side kick to Abled bodied Adam and neurotypical Nancy, and are only there so the writer could say they put in a disabled character
The disabled character is only in one or two episodes and every episode they take part in their whole character MUST be centered on their illness, no they canât be a superhero, no they canât just have every day problems like having a crush or doing bad on a test, no they canât have any tragedies or depth, they just have to be âthe character that has a wheelchair or somethingâ
The writer/cast/fans talk big about the representation but when you actually watch the show/read the book the writing is purposefully vague as FUCK about what illness or disability the character(s) have, solely so there can be room for people to believe theyâre abled bodied/neurotypical
The disabled character is more comic relief than anything else, not because theyre funny or want to be comic relief but because whatâs funnier than someone needing a wheelchair? Or someone with IBS or stomach issues needing to use the bathroom? Or someone with ADHD talking super fast and bouncing off walls?
The disabled character is there for one episode, the episode is only to progress the abled bodied protagonists ideaologies/depth, disabled character isnât so much a character as they are a life lesson for abled bodied Adam or neurotypical Nancy
The disabled character HATES the fact theyâre disabled, they HATE themselves and the show/book makes it seem like thatâs normal, like no one ever could ever possibly like/be okay with living as disabled
If I have to see the âbitter crippleâ troupe I swear to god
The disabled character is a villain, and the protagonist is abled bodied/neurotypical
The disabled character is a villain and is scary because theyâre MENTALLY ILL and have DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES and WILL KILL our abled bodied neurotypical protagonists
People talk about how great the representation is but the Disabled character is played by a neurotypical/abledbodied person
The disabled character kills themselves/lets themselves be killed because âbetter off dead than disabledâ
The show/book/writers/fans claim the piece of media is progressive but still uses words like âchallengedâ, âimpairedâ, âhandicapableâ and other words that have already been said arenât what(the majority of) disabled people wanna be called
The show tries itâs BEST not to actually use the word disabled
The disabled character is written off because the fanbase/writers didnât want the disabled character to become important
The disabled character isnât allowed to have sex, like sex or even know what sex is because they are disabled so obviously they will have no sex life
No romantic life either, romance is for the lovable and if youâre disabled, while the whole shows message could be to âlove yourselfâ theyâll refuse to let a disabled character be in a relationship or be happy
The person in a relationship w a disabled character is always talking about how much they do, how theyâre tired, or is worshipped as a hero because they CARE about a disabled person- no way!
Cheating is âokayâ if the partner is disabled because who could actually stay loyal to a disabled person
(BONUS) The show/movie has flashing lights/strobe affects/other things that stop actual disabled people from being able to watch it, the writers claim itâs a movie âeveryone can loveâ but has made choices that ultimately stop a large amount of disabled people from being able to watch said piece of media

Common signs that an autism resource is bad
Person-first language (âpeople with autismâ) The autistic community are very vocal about preferring identity-first language (âautistic peopleâ) over person-first language (âpeople with autismâ) so use of person-first language in an autism resource shows a lack of contact with the autistic community/an unwillingness to listen to autistic people.
Mentions of a supposed cure for autism. There is no cure for autism and many of the proposed âcuresâ are both dangerous and abusive. Resources and organisations who try to sell you a cure are either knowingly scamming you or very misinformed about the reality of autism.
Advocacy for finding a cure for autism. The majority of the autistic community donât want a cure for their autism - they want society to change so that autistic people can be accepted, respected and included as they are. Advocacy for finding a cure for autism shows a lack of contact with the autistic community/an unwillingness to listen to autistic people.
Functioning labels. Functioning labels (âsevere autismâ vs âmild autismâ/âhigh-functioningâ vs âlow-functioningâ) are at best useless and at worst harmful and the autistic community doesnât support the use of them. Use of functioning labels in an autism resources shows a lack of contact with the autistic community and a lacking understanding of autism.
Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is a very harmful organization which isnât supported by the autistic community. Positive references to Autism Speaks/connections with Autism Speaks shows a lack of contact with the autistic community and an unwillingness to listen to autistic people.Â
ABA. ABA (âApplied Behavior Analysisâ) is an abusive therapy which isnât supported by the autistic community. Positive references to ABA shows a lack of contact with the autistic community and an unwillingness to listen to autistic people.
Claims that vaccines cause autism. Vaccines donât cause autism, this has been proved over and over by various independent studies. Claims that vaccines cause autism shows a lacking understanding of science/a lack of scientific objectivity.Â
Adding onto this a little: if they describe an autistic child as âtaken away by autismâ or ânot âmyâ childâ that is a sign to leave.
Less obviously: Aspergerâs counts as a functioning label. Itâs an antiquated diagnosis originally created by a Nazi which just means âhigh-functioning.â
