“even fate picks its favorites” is such a raw fucking line so it’s no surprise that it comes from the cinematic masterpiece Megamind (2010)

feel like finstas and private stories have added a detrimental voyeuristic parasocial aspect to friendships

they create such an imbalanced relationship where one is the viewer who is responsible for making initial contact every time by sliding up or commenting in order to initiate an actual conversation rather than just mindlessly consuming the friend’s content throughout the day as if they’re entertainment and not someone you care about. and then on the flip side the person who is the one with the private story/finsta/whatever starts to enter a mindset where communicating directly with your friends isn’t really necessary and you just expect them to get updates from you through passively viewing your story. that’s a recipe for resentment, not a friendship
