Abolish ICE.
Shout out to my mom who explains my transition as "Having a daughterpillar turn into a Boyterfly". It doesn't erase the fact I was an adorable little girl, and also affirms my gender now. I love my mother.
it really pisses me off when adults sit there and drill it into kids’ heads that their youth is fleeting and tell them things like “enjoy your childhood while it lasts because this is the best it’s gonna get”. why are you telling children that adulthood is the worst thing they can experience? seriously what the fuck is wrong with you, why are you trying to make them feel like growing up is a fate worse than death? trying to convince them their life is over before it even begins? i’m tired of that shit. because tell my why my 12 year old cousin told me when she turns 30 she’ll be so depressed she’s just gonna cry all the time. what the fuck. kids don’t need to hear that their already stressful and overwhelming lives are never going to get better, that the abuse and lack of autonomy they face is apparently the highlight of their lives. they need to hear about adults who are happy to be alive and happy to have made it to their age. they need to know that growing up rules, it’s a gift and life does not have to suck for them, that they have a future that’s worth sticking around for. this rhetoric is so damaging mentally and i’m about to start hitting the adults who parrot it. i’m sorry you hate your life but you don’t get to dump your issues on these kids. don’t piss me off and leave these babies alone!
hi this drives me crazy
canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana
a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.
an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.
fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.
these are all different words with different meanings.

>‘this thing is too generic and tropey’
>look inside
>forefather of that genre
Forcing myself to believe this is a bit on 916 days left
I mean, there were people complaining that Blade Runner 2049 when it came out was filled with cyberpunk cliches, despite being a direct sequel were a lot of the genre's cliched originated.
the productivity creatures
its not funny but i do think about it a lot
This made me think about this panel from Calvin and Hobbes:
But unlike the adult in this strip, Calvin’s dad actually APOLOGIZED for yelling at him when he saw how guilty his kid was:
“I saw that the camera could be a weapon against poverty, against racism, against all sorts of social wrongs. I knew at that point I had to have a camera.” – Gordon Parks
Segregation history, Gordon parks. 1956

I want to write a book called “your character dies in the woods” that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a “miserable” 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.
Are there any other particularly egregious examples?
This book already exists, sort of! Or at least, it’s a biology textbook but I bought it for writing purposes:
It starts with a chapter about freezing to death, and it is without a doubt the scariest thing I’ve read in years (and I read a lot of horror fiction).
This book can be downloaded for free on Researchgate, posted there by the author himself:
The Biology of Human Survival: Life and Death in Extreme Environments
(ID: The book cover to "The Biology of Human Survival: Life and Death in Extreme Environments" by Clause A. Piantadosi.
The background is of several people with rope tied to their waists pulling on a sled with the rope, in the snow during a blizzard. An empty boat is nearby. End ID)
This is your semi frequent reminder that there is no official AO3 app
All those are unofficial and available on the Google play store as of August 13th 2025. They mirror AO3's content and insert ads, for which the developer gets paid by page impression (that's every time the ad appears in the fic you're reading) not just clicks.
No money goes to AO3, nor to the fic writer. It goes to the person who did the bare minimum.
Many of these apps have poorly worded or non existent privacy policies, so they may also be mining as much data as possible and selling that on to unknown third parties.
Please, just use the official AO3 site and the browser.
As a guy who does Cyber IT as a living PLEASE USE THE MAIN SITE ON THE BROWSER! Do not use unofficial apps. You are opening yourselves up to a multitude of cyber threats, especially when there is no privacy policy or agreements.
The site is mobile optimized, and you can download the fics as PDFs or epubs if you need to read offline like on a plane, there is no reason to use a third party app.
Which Robin do you think believes in villain rehab as much as Batman does?
In Batman comics (and DC Comics in general) villains are constantly going through redemption arcs or falling back into their old ways. well maybe i think most Robins lean toward believing in rehabilitation but who do you think has the most faith in people's ability to change? Like whose conviction in that is basically unshakable? 🤔
.
dick
jason
steph
tim
damian
Okay, this one is interesting!
You’re saying Robins, so that excludes Cass, who possibly believes in villain rehabilitation MORE than Bruce!
So, depending on the metric you’re using, I’d say either Tim or Dick.
Dick actively mentors people who say they’re trying to change. He teams up with villains. He hopes for and believes in PEOPLE.
Tim, however, believes in the PROCESS. He talks villains down, and offers alternatives. He reminds them of their previous statements that they would try something different, and redirects them back on track. While he was Robin, he was instrumental in both Poison Ivy and Riddler’s reforms, as well as supporting Mr. Freeze’s attempts. He ran an outreach program committed to helping kids get out of/stay out of gangs.
I’d say that Tim is probably more effective at villain rehab than Dick, but he isn’t as committed to the people he’s assisting. He does the work without necessarily having faith in the people he’s doing it for. His “success” stories tend to true neutral - not becoming heroes, but giving up their worst practices.
Meanwhile Dick believes in people so hard that they want to live up to his expectations. His success stories go on to be heroes. He holds on to a better world and a better future. But he also burns himself out. When people feel they can’t live up to his expectations, they tend to backslide straight to supervillainy. He takes this personally.
I’d say Tim wins on “believing in villain rehab”, but Dick wins on “having faith in people’s ability to change”.

Every work of art says things the creator hasn’t considered, but if you’ve really thought about what you’re trying to say then generally the additional dimensions you didn’t know it had are in alignment with your purpose, whereas if you think you’re making no cultural comment at all you are actually making a LOT of cultural comments, most of which will be unflattering to you
Porn is one of the most culturally rich types of media imaginable so the answer is: you cannot do this
“I don’t want to make anything with cultural dimensions. That’s why I only write within the genre that is legally sequestered away from every other kind of storytelling because of my culture’s attitude towards depictions of sex.”

I really really liked the au, I had never read such a unique au before this??? Like it was a mystery type and describing the dream was so actually dream like?? It felt like I could imagine having such power irl!! I also think it's a little underrated
Actually, quick heads-ups to my fellow Olds:
We have now reached the point in the timeline where characters watch home videos on cassette tapes. I am now wondering how many seconds of video a cassette could hold, if it could hold video. The video’s pretty short, it might fit, and then you could get a dream cassette player that works as a VHS player to read it, maybe?
I mean they’re both magnetic tap, so it’s mostly size that’s the issue, right?
I'm sorry ╥﹏╥ I am too young to know the difference. Most of my info of VHS tapes existing has come form Marble Hornets. (The series started in 2006, which is the year I was born in,, and even by 2006 they weren't popular anymore bc DVD's ;-;)
