evoking bertholt brechtâs âthe way people cast a play!â quote as a spell against prescriptive, stereotypical, fatalistic typecasting
idk what to tell you except go look at the fishwives
gentle reminder that if u feel hungry soon after eating, it might be bc youâre eating mostly carbs without adding enough protein. try eating a handful of nuts or smthing alongside your next meal.
and you donât have to change the recipe or anything! you can eat what you were going to, just add some cheese cubes or a handful of nuts or salami slices on the side. u donât have to change your meals, just add a little extra protein
thats nice but what do I need to do If I wake up around 3 am every other night with an unquenchable hunger for flesh even tho I ate normal balanced meals trough the day?
spoonful of peanut butter
"Punishment works!!!" We're drowning in three to four generations of people so pants-shittingly terrified of ever being wrong that half of everyone has constructed a worldview wherein they never even consider the possibility that they could be wrong and the other half behaves like one wrong move will make anything or anyone explode violently into a million irreperable pieces. I don't think it works guys
I know this might be a bold take but maybe teaching everyone from a young age that ever making a mistake will be met with unimaginable pain and misery doesn't actually encourage learning or correct behavior. If anything it creates a sense of terror so powerful it completely suffocates curiosity and exploration, thus leading to people knowing absolutely nothing but whatever is brought directly to them, which is a big problem in a world where information is so tightly controlled that a very small number of very powerful people basically have complete power over what people see and hear on a day-to-day basis when not actively seeking new and rigorously verified information from diverse and trustworthy sources.
if any of this sounds like you, start by looking up the definition of words you've heard and are pretty sure you know what they mean, but haven't actually double-checked for yourself. Just like, whenever it occurs to you. Great first step
This post goes out to the "we need to bring back bullying" crowd. Just because you aren't hitting someone physically doesn't mean you aren't being punitive. Maybe it isn't actually healthy to believe it's necessary to harass and humiliate anyone who makes you upset or uncomfortable. That sounds like a you problem actually.
Anyways, breaking the cycle of abuse starts with you and how you treat yourself. You have to give yourself grace and room for error or you'll never be able to cultivate a healthier mindset than your trauma left you with. It's not easy, but you have to trust yourself that whatever seems kinder than however you usually treat yourself is probably a good enough start. Doesn't need to be perfect, doesn't need to be The Correct Answer, just needs to be a step in the right direction, y'know? We'll figure out the details along the way.

So thereâs a trend going round where you draw Miku inspired by your own culture and normally I just sit those out bc iâm from England but then the image of her covered in fake tan with the full chav makeup and sloppily bleached blue pigtails popped into my head and i almost threw up laughing. So hereâs briâish Miku. She smells like impulse body spray and spent the last 30 minutes arguing with the teacher who told her to take her coat off. Itâs chewsday innit

Long Live the Fighters! May they find many shiny things and make a rich profit from greedy corporations.
having a resting bitchface is so funny because i'll be doing something relaxing, and really enjoying myself and my face will look like this
#how long have we been holding on to this one?
I held onto this for six whole months. It was soooo hard waiting.
A comic about book bans, ppl's continued dismissiveness of asexuality, and ppl's lack of understanding around what it means to be queer, and why they should be worried about book bannings.
I'll add smth here cos I learned after posting this on IG that people still aren't entirely understanding how scary and dangerous this is. Ppl kept saying to me 'I can still buy your book in shops though' or 'Its okay, I'll order your book into my library!'
I dont give af about my book lol No one outside of Ace ppl ever read it, its yearly sales don't even cover a month of expenses for me.
The thing you should all be concerned about is that a totally benign unheard of book about someone's every day life is being banned. And those laws listed above are passing through US government right now. One of those laws would make it so that any teacher/librarian in the US could lose their job/go to prison for simply sharing 'ideology'- and I don't mean only lgbtq folk, these laws are attacking black history, civil rights history, disability rep in books. Just talking about these things will now legally be considered a 'dangerous ideology'.
And once that's set into law, the US government has backing via law to go ahead and say 'if these books aren't legally allowed in schools, then they shouldn't be allowed in shops, either.' And from there it sets up a great argument for 'The dangerous content in these books is lawfully being removed from public, shouldn't we be lawfully removing the people living out/promoting this ideology too?'
I can see why ppl don't fully understand how dangerous book bannings are, if they're not familiar with the history of fascism. If you're interested, there are plenty of graphic novels that share this history via first hand accounts- Maus, Persepolis, Banned Book Club.
But guess what? You're on limited time to get these via libraries...cos all three of these books are on banned lists too, and they got nothing to do with lgbtq rep, and everything to do with warning ppl about fascism.
And the US government knows it can get away with this, because they are passing these laws as we speak and barely anyone is doing anything about it or talking about it. I've been trying to talk about it for years and no one does anything except say to me 'don't worry, I'll buy your book!' or say its a badge of honour that I have a banned book.
So I'll emphasise once more. If you live in the USA, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR REP ABOUT THESE LAWS!
It's also about controlling bodies. Books about asexuality are not books about "just not having sex" they're about how not participating in sex at all is ok
Conservatives don't want that because they want women to be at home and pregnant
Asexuality as and identity and concept directly threatens their ideology and is severely punished and medicalised
Books saying "you're not broken, this is ok" is a threat to them. It says "you can deny anyone access to your body, even in a relationship" and they don't like that
If you're not ace you should read things like OPs book and understand and respect asexuality and why it needs defending and book bans like this are so worrying
If children don't learn that asexuality (or other flavors of queer) are an option, they'll still be ace, but they'll believe it makes them mutant freaks. 100% evitable suffering
All of this. I actually just bought this book and read it this weekend and for the first time, really found examples and representation of how I felt about sex. My experience isn't 100% the same as the author but the end sections gave me further nuance for understanding. I wish that this was in the library. I will be suggesting it for mine for sure.
It was so helpful to see it and made it a lot easier to accept it in myself. It is good and fine to say that we should just accept ourselves as we are and a lot harder to do in reality. Having explanations and representation really helps short-cut the self-acceptance journey.
I recommend this book to anyone who is wanting to understand a different experience than the "traditional" allosexual experience. It is helpful in understanding the different ways people experience desire. Not a be all that ends all reference but a very helpful introduction to the subject.

The first asexual person I met outside of the internet was a 65 year old woman.
Iâd been interning with her as an artist/executive assistant for some time. To put a long story short sheâd developed a tremor that kept her from doing a certain amount of studio work, so in between sending emails and invoices for her Iâd chip in and help with line art or drafting on longer projects. A lot of it was the two of us sitting in her basement studio, doing our own thing, waiting for the phone to ring. We got to talking a lot. Iâd just moved across the country and was still finding my footing.
There was a handyman she had over occasionally â he was a personal friend who enjoyed her company more than she enjoyed his. She didnât dislike him by any means, but he definitely had feelings for her that she didnât reciprocate. One day, after heâd come over to repair something-or-other and left, she and I started talking about relationships.
She asked if I had a boyfriend. I told her I wasnât interested in being in a relationship with anyone and that Iâd never had a desire to be in a relationship. Admittedly, I was bracing for the âYouâll meet the right person somedayâ response. I knew it generally came from a place of care, but it never changed how much I dreaded to hear it. I really respected my mentor and I was prepared to nod along to whatever response she gave me. Instead of anything I expected her to say, she just kind of nodded and said, âMe neither. I think Iâm â whatâs the term â asexual?â
I was ecstatic. I told her I was asexual, too. I saw her sigh in relief, the same way I did. I couldnât believe it.
We didnât get much work done that day, we just started talking about our experiences. Sheâd been married once when she was younger and even during that period of her life her disinterest in a sexual relationship didnât change. She had a roommate after graduating college who confessed to having feelings for her and she had to tell her âItâs not that I donât like girls, itâs that I donât like anybody.â The roommate harbored enough bitterness over this that they had to split ways. Her mother told her that she would quote ârather have a gay daughter than a daughter who didnât fancy anyone at allâ unquote.
I didnât have nearly as many experiences as she did, but I was able to share my own for the first time. I shared how it was easier to say I was taking time to work on myself than to say I had no interest in being in a relationship. We talked about the words âYouâll meet the right person somedayâ and âYouâll know when youâre in loveâ and âDonât worry, one day youâll meet some guy that changes everything.â As if something was broken.
âIâve been alive for sixty five years,â my mentor told me, âand Iâve never felt like I was missing something, even if everybody told me I was.â
Currently, my mentor lives with her parrot, her cats, and her backyard-wildlife pals in a house that she owns. She makes art and hosts community art groups and volunteers at care homes and is the most self-fulfilled woman Iâve ever met. And she loves her life. She loves the people she knows and they love her, too. If I could be half as cool as she is when I grow up, I think thatâd be pretty amazing.
âAsexualityâ isnât a problem to be fixed or a phase to grow out of. Sometimes youâre fifteen and sometimes youâre sixty-five. I knew in my heart that older asexual people existed but it changed me completely to meet one. We were here before and we always will be.
I wish more modern problems could be solved by going on quests. âGoing to the grocery store is itâs own kind of questâ fuck off, I want to end global warming by throwing a magic wand into a volcano
