How would you deal with pregnancy in a campaign? My current players are divided on the topic. The women say it should give bonuses because of the stress on the body etc. But the guys are saying no and get will pissed if bonuses are given. How would you diffuse the situation a bit and what bonuses would you give if any. (I can’t remove it entirely because several characters are in relationships and want kids). P.s. there are hefty negetives during the course of the pregnancy. DM answer: Well first off, any player who complains about another player getting stat bonuses is a fucking douche and needs to cut it out and grow up. It’s no different from one person having a magic item and another person not. Shit happens. Secondly, the actual issue at hand. If we’re being “realistic” then pregnancy during the generic medieval period was gnarly and brutal and dangerous but that is SUCH A BORING TROPE. I wouldn’t have there be any mechanical effects at all. If anything i’d give a CON boost. Maybe a negative dex mod in the final trimester cuz of hulking that belly around, but like i remember watching farscape while aeryn sun gave birth in the middle of a gun battle and didn’t stop shooting for the entire thing and that’s way more rad than “weh weh women are weak and burdonsome when they get preggo” Zita: I mean no offense but you need to tell those boy to STFU because it’s none of their beeswax and if their character had an NPC growing inside them they would probably expect stat changes???  Not sure what version you are playing but I would majorly increase/give advantage to perception checks. People who are pregnant have increased awareness, obviously for survival reasons. That is the absolute least you should do. Pregnant people also exhibit awareness of things that their family can not sense. Pregnant folks are known to “follow a smell” out of their homes into the wilderness and find powerful objects/omens relating to the birth.(not just in mythology but in real life.) If I were running a campaign with a pregnant character I would absolutely include this because it has great magic and/or religious potential for the parents and unborn npc. It might be worth looking up pregnancy complication and their symptoms if you want to add extra suspense to the birth.  Also consider the nature of the character’s God/Goddess and if they would grant them extra protection while pregnant or even special powers during or after gestation. Is creating an offspring a great deed according to their religion? If so, they should for sure get a boon. Maybe even the whole party should if they all help/participate in the birth?
