They DID that!!!
It took me about 15 seconds in to realize what was happening in this vid, but the second I did, I legit came. This is… I got chills and got so much validation for my theories about tap and pretty much any genre of music here…
Tap is probably one of the dance styles that gets the least amount of credit four how badass it is
Holy hell-
Sorry I don’t get it?
They’re tap dancing, a kind of dancing typically associated with being old-fashioned and kind of silly. Personally, even tap dancing to old music is awesome in my eyes, but this is on a totally new and exciting level
The thing about tap is that it’s so often seen as a fancy, old-fashioned dainty dance that only posh (and generally white) people do in tuxedos but it didn’t used to be the case.
Way back in the early days, it was where black performers in Vaudeville were legendary for it in Jazz and Jive routines. At about 1:37, this is where the Nicholas brothers go off.
It’s such an expressive and joyful kind of dance and matches so well with hip hop beats and rhythm, which is why the modern reworking of it is so awesome.
Im sure a lot of people also watch the op video and they assume that “clap” sound is part of the music just because a LOT of modern music samples that sound and in some music it is just the sound of hands clapping, but no that is a sound being made by all their shoes at once.
one of my favorite syncopated ladies routines
Has the world forgotten Gregory Hines?
I am gritting my teeth at the mere suggestion that tap is primarily associated with dainty white people.
Tap is a distinctive American art form that comes from a blending of African dance traditions with Irish dance traditions. It was developed by Black and white dancers and came up alongside and deeply entwined with jazz.
Certainly the tap that ends up in musical theater often seems old-fashioned and white but that’s a musical theater issue, not a tap issue. That is only one small part of tap, which continues to have a strong African-American tradition.
The Nicholas Brothers, above, are in a clip from the film Stormy Weather, which has an almost entirely African-American cast. Some of the other scenes in the film include Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, one of the greatest tap artists of all time. He was very well-known generally and was in quite a few Shirley Temple movies in his day. (Shirley Temple, herself, was a tap dancer – which I’ll be real is probably contributing to people thinking it’s old-fashioned and white, because it’s easy to forget the Black man dancing alongside her, I guess.)
Here’s Bill Robinson with Cab Calloway in Stormy Weather – he’s performing a variation of his famous “stair dance” in parts of this clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY3fbvBRiaM
Here’s probably the most widely famous version of the “stair dance”, from The Little Colonel:
There’ve been a lot of white tap dancers through the years – see, for example, everyone’s favorite clip of two men torturing a speech therapist:
… but a lot of its most famous practitioners have been Black and it’s weird to me that people don’t know that.
Have a scene from Tap (1989).
So while rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender recently, I noticed a trend
A number of spirits we see have an animal form, specifically animals we recognize as "normal" for us. For example:
- Wan Shi Tong is an owl and his knowledge seekers are foxes
- Tui and La are koi fish
- Hei Bai is a panda
-The guardian of the mother of faces is a wolf (The Search)
Heck there's even the talking Baboon spirit and the monkey missing its face that we see in the Spirit World at the end of Season 1.
Basically every time we've seen a "normal" animal, they've been a spirit.
My point? I argue that Bosco is a spirit bear that's chilling and living the good life in the mortal world just because he can.

This Dan Piraro comic always makes me cry.
firm believer you can't be a ''good person''. too much niuance to life.
you can be good (adjective) but you cannot be good (identity)
if you think you are good (identity) you are more likely to cause harm as you don't consider yourself to be capable of it
me: does this fantasy setting have no misogyny or does it just have women in the warrior class
they: i dont understand
me: *explains in detail the difference between a fantasy setting w no misogyny n a fantasy setting where the creator just added women to the warrior class n put no further thought into it whatsoever*
they: *laugh* its a good fantasy setting, sir
me: *looks inside* *they just added women to the warrior class*
I’m still intrigued by the idea that shane has a harder time adjusting to ilya’s captaincy style in ottawa than he expects. I feel like the metros vs. raiders locker rooms were probably soooo different. I imagine shane as the kind of captain who runs an extremely tight ship with very high standards for professionalism but maybe, uh, not as much room for fun or goofing off or all the casual bonding stuff that makes guys feel like Brothers In Arms. it’s a good place to work in that you can expect everyone to work hard and excel but it also feels very much like a workplace where you are sort of tacitly expected to leave your personal life at the door. shane is going to treat you well as a colleague but unless you’re hayden he’s probably not going to remember your wife’s name or your kids’ ages and favorite sports at school. and if you’ve got personal life stuff going on outside of work it’s like… ok but you’re at work now? he’s got personal life stuff going on too (see: messy secret gay situationship with a disaster bisexual) and he’s not letting it affect his game.
whereas I think ilya as a captain is one of those people who seem to be running an extremely loose ship (it’s noisy it’s chaotic guys are roughhousing during practice people prank each other all the time everyone’s out a little later than they should be at the bar together etc etc) but actually the second something starts souring in the atmosphere it becomes obvious that ilya has his finger on the pulse of the room and absolutely nothing escapes his notice. and he has a knack for fixing things or smoothing things over without it actually seeming like he’s intervening at all, just by saying the right thing to the right guy at the right moment or giving someone a little nudge or taking some of the guys out drinking and by the end of the night it’s somehow all resolved even though no one can remember what happened or how he did it.
ANYWAY I think when shane comes into that cens locker room it would be fun for him to initially be silently appalled by how cavalier ilya seems be about his leadership position. like shane has no problem not wearing the C on his new team but is ANYONE wearing the C here??? and I think it would be funnnn for them to have some friction about it at first where shane’s being silently judgy about it but refusing to come out and say anything and ilya’s getting annoyed but also like a little wounded by it because it’s the same attitude his dad always had about his leadership style. and ALSO in his secret heart of hearts he sort of feels like… his raiders, to a man, would have died for him and still loved him even after he left boston in the lurch with zero explanation, whereas shane’s metros threw him under the bus the second he came out… and then when they finally have a big blowout fight about this & that last part surfaces it’s very hurtful to shane because of course everyone loves ilya people are so EASY for ilya!!!! ilya doesn’t even have to work for it he just shows up and winks at people and cracks a few jokes and everyone is falling all over themselves to make him happy!!!! and maybe shane isn’t good at people but he’s good at being a fucking professional and that’s why he has three cups to ilya’s one!!!! anyway it gets messy and everyone storms off to lick their wounds and then they make up later and eventually ilya admits that OKAY maybe he could stand to be a little more of an hardass when guys are slacking off in practice or whatever and then shane admits that OKAY maybe remembering stuff about your teammates’ families or knowing when a guy’s in the throes of an ugly divorce and needs a little bit of grace is important to helping guys click with each other and feel emotionally invested in what you’re building together, and also it’s kind of hot when ilya makes totally ridiculous scoring bets with the guys and then comes back to collect. and then of course having resolved all of this they fuck about it
Ok*reduces you to a simmer* go rest for a while

Yesterday my little brother told me something very sweet and touching, that when he was a kid and had nightmares about monsters chasing him or whatever he would be able to end the nightmare by finding me in the dream and I would protect him by fighting off the zombies, or carrying him away. This is adorable, and makes me feel like the greatest older sibling in the world, but the hilarious thing is that when I was a kid I had nightmares of needing to save him from zombies and such. so many dreams where he was in trouble and I needed to save him. Like my nightmares began where his ended. Low key I think he mastered the ability to psychically transfer his nightmare to me as a child and I'm kind of annoyed with him.
