MinSang getting lost in a venue out of spite is hilarious, and I need more detailed elaboration of this. I like to think Yeosang's stubbornness is out of pure pettiness to his members.
My two favorite things out of this CB were Yeosang finally getting a chance to show off his talents and the MinSang duo. They have been so much fun to watch.
okay so i am just gonna post this bc i started a new job and its severely eating into my kpop-boy time (a travesty)
i am a lover of comedy in many ways. its my favourite thing to write and draw, i am a certified Clown in my daily life. i take great pride in being funny, both online and irl. so for me, the second skill i look for in a kpop boy beyond performance (dance or song), is comedic skills. its the through-line for most of my biases, is the fact that they're in some way or form have comedic chops.
mingis comedy is something i've already written about, a skill i really hope he takes pride in, and its a very physical and loud comedy. he's often the fool in comparision to the others members straight man, and he often allows himself to be the punchline. part of why this works so well is because his comedy is, in some way, a play on what you expect mingi to be. mingi is large and cool, he's sharp eyed and sharp edged. he's got a loud, deep, booming voice. he's got a resting bitch face. so, him playing the fool is... unexpected. it's inherently funny to make this big, cool man play a fool. this is not always nice, and i have another rant about how i think ateez should develop their comedic skills to be broader and better than just "lets make fun of this guy" (guy is often, but not always, mingi). its why they're so good in physical content, like when they can go screeching in a thousand different directions. the kind of stand-up comedy they keep trying for in sit-down content is in my opinion their least good comedy-genre. but i digress. whats important to understand is that mingis style of comedy is about himself. his comedy is often about subverting expectations and playing the fool, either by acting/being dumb or by having big, overblown reactions.
out of all the others, yeosang's comedy is most similar. it's why i WANT THEM IN ATEEZ+ PLEASE. yeosang's comedy is about himself too, but yeosang often turns the expectation of being the fool the other way around. he plays with his presentation, he knows he's seen as an airhead, so he plays into it and against it. he knows he's small, but strong, so him physically carrying mingi away makes it even funnier, because both mingi throwing a tantrum, and yeosang being the one to carry him away, is subversion of who they are "supposed" to be (mingi cool and aloof, yeosang distracted and submissive). (its the same thing where yeosang says a very oldfasioned greeting in the back of that car. he subverts being young, which makes it funny).
i am fond of mingis comedy chops together with a lot of people. i think he's the most fun with hongjoong, but i do actually think he'd be great with yeosang in a more physical sense. partly because yeosang seems comfortable being manhandled by mingi (i think its because 1. mingis hot, 2. mingi is very fine with being manhandled right back), and to be the straight-man to mingi's fool in a less... cruel and more comedic way than i think some of the others do it, sometimes.
they're both oddballs, they both disassociate when they're bored or have to conserve energy for something else, and both of them are hilariously bad at acting as though they're into something when they're not (mingi does not play along and stands still, yeosang starts doing something else). they're both physical, they're both maltese/doberman and wolf/chicken. i also think they're both aware of themselves in the way odd people kinda have to be, i think they're both pretty comfortable in themselves (warts and all) and can probably tell someone their strengths and weaknesses in a way that would make most of the other boys grimace in shame. if yunho and mingi are the same kind of freak in different fonts, i think yeosang and mingi are different kind of freaks in the same font.
