I totally agree, petitioning to cancel a game is downright ridiculous, but I can see why Paper Mario fans have gotten like this. It really does look like Nintendo sees what people like in PM and says “what if we actively avoided these things that people like, and then when people for years complain about our latest games and talk so highly of the first two, we’ll just ignore that entirely.” Nintendo is like, the kings of not listening to their fans and not learning from their mistakes. I love nintendo, but they have a huge problem with that.

It’s the How I Met Your Mother Effect. If an ending betrays the viewers and the story badly enough, it actively cancels out the cultural influence of the show. It decreases the rewatch value and diminishes the fondness and relatability of earlier seasons.
