Trying to finish this Morward WIP that I started in 2024. It is Dracula season, I gotta finally get this fic done.
It's not even going to be that long, it's just stubborn.

A quick painting I unfortunately don't have time to finish.
Bad ending Jonathan Harker, trapped in Dracula's castle, waiting for the Master to return home.
I have this notion that vampires retain a twisted aspect of their living loves and desires, but wrenched into the same position as their unending hunger. Jonathan will love Mina, regardless of who or what he is, and that love will remain to consume him when all else is gone.
Beautiful, heartbreaking, but not gonna lie, on mobile I was scrolling slowly, so my first thought before I got to the bottom was:
More thoughts on Frankenstein:
The first confrontation between Victor and the Creature was so unintentionally hilarious to me for two reasons:
1. The confirmation that the Creature has definitely been following Victor around waiting to rush in the second Victor drops a suitable entry line. (Two nickles, weird it happened twice, etc.)
2. Sickly stick man Victor Frankenstein ready to square up against the being that scales mountains and that he didnāt trust the Swiss constabulary to be able to take down, and the Creature just raising an eyebrow.
The difference in the energy of Frankenstein proper vs the prologue letters.
Frankenstein: the defining gothic horror, the OG sci fi. Doomed by fate and hubris, despair and regret coloring every paragraph.
The prologue letters: āSis, remember how I said I reeeeeally need a boyfriend? SO ABOUT THAT. I manifested this depressed Swiss scientist from the icy sea, and Iām going to keep a journal of everything he tells me (so, fingers crossed, I can get you caught up to speed on your future brother in law when I get home from my voyage).ā
So I started the Frankenstein audio book. Iāve read the book before, but itās been years.
I had forgotten how thirsty the narrator is for Victor. He wants a āfriendā so bad.
I need to decide which classic book to slowly read through and shitpost about next. I have an audiobook for the Count of Monte Cristo that is an intimidating 52 hours long, or I could pick up a copy of Frankenstein if I want to go easier on myself.

hey you probably dont know this but whale weekly has not finished the book yet so could you not post untagged spoilers in the tag
Sure thing. Iāll add spoiler tags to stuff. What chapter is it on currently?
Ch 131 dropped today
Thanks! I didnāt realize a new cycle was happening.
It's not a new cycle it just is spaced over two years.... we're almost there (I think)
..........which means I am going to have been wrong about it beginning on Christmas and ending on Good Friday. Huh!
The first one is still going? Dang, thatās some dedication, yāall! Iām used to Dracula Daily that goes for 7 months.

Moby Dick: the end
RIP the crew, but Iām super distracted by this sub-sub librarian extract section. Herman Melville just control+F āwhaleā from his research and dumped in all in like a student trying desperately to get their page count up.
Wait, are the extracts at the end in the novel as written?
In email substack format we got them at the beginning. That's... that's a very different reading experience o.o
I have so many thoughts about the Extracts because like. He didn't ctrl+F whale. And the inclusion of the character of the sub-sub-librarian highlights that. Finding these, choosing these, ordering these was a human effort driven by a human intent. In fact the three possibly contradictory human intents of the motiveless mechanical sub-sub-librarian, Ishmael trying desperately to make sense of everything with facts and academia, and Melville telling a story. There's a story being told in the randomness here, or if not there's a story that can be read into the randomness here, which is perhaps a different thing.
And God created the whale - the whale is the King of the Sea
I was doing an audio book, and that part came on after the big, climactic āeveryone diedā conclusion and the brief āexcept for meā epilogue. I might get more from it if I went back and read it in text, but it just felt super disjointed as it was. Which, if Ishmael is scrambling for meaning, fair, but i found it distracting from the extreme drama of the whale calamity.

Moby Dick Chap 132
(What do you mean this wasnāt what happened?)
Moby Dick Chapter 100
So, Ahab meets his English double and crosses ivory arm with ivory legā¦
So, like, did he do a Cancan dancer style high kick, or a spin kick, or a Chun-Li lightning kick, or a crane kick, or what? Or is he a master contortionist?? I am wildly curious as to how this crazy old man did his bone leggy hand shake.
Perhaps he removed it altogether. Or he just stood there and had Boomer to the contortionist work. Most of all I would prefer some sick anime fight moves though.
Captains Ahab and Boomer preparing to exchange a flurry of bony blows:
